NDSU Bisons Took over both Dakotas... Got Map from UTSA fan site Roadyville..

Having grown up in Northern California, I can say that USC dominates all that Cal region. Cal is the place you go to when you can't get into Stanford.

That is laughable. Cal is one of the best schools in the world. I'm sure plenty of people there didn't get into Stanford, but Cal isn't exactly akin to some run-of-the-mill 4th tier party school...

Don't know about Cal, but I'm told Stanford is the tier 1 party school.

California, UCLA, Michigan, UVa., and Carolina are (and have been for quite some time) the top 5 public Universities in the United States.

The only inaccuracy I see is Boston College. What about the Maine Black Bears, New Hampshire Wildcats and Vermont Catamounts?

Map is close except for the range of Marshall within WV :-) Its more like the size of a pin head.

Vermont stopped playing football in the late 70's/early 80's.
It needs UMass to be bigger in NE.

Also GaSt is in Atlanta, not by the cost at all.

The Ohio-Marshall area is bigger than what is listed on the map.

The very tip of Ohio is located directly across the river from Huntington and has an Ohio branch campus. I would say that area goes green all they way up the Cincinnati boundary.

The Ohio area goes east from Athens to the West Virginia boarder.

Ndsu has maybe 10 fans in South Dakota; their own alumi. Nebraska has fans in SD, but not in ND. ND is divided between UND and NDSU.

The Midwest state that rural residents have the lowest level of allegiance to a state schools is probably Minnesota: the Gophers just don't cause a buzz. If NDSU allegiance overlaps into another state, it is into Minnesota.

BYUs fan base encompasses SW Wyoming, almost all of eastern Idaho and much of rural Nevada and Northern Arizona. Utah's base is more limited to the Salt Lake metro area.

I've seen a few renditions of maps with this general concept but nobody has managed to make it this attractive. It still isn't great but some of the other attempts have been terrible.

And yeah the BC region is laughable. I'd also make the IU one much larger, into Indy at the least.

cool to look at. discussing inadequate properties is pointless. fans are everywhere.

For the map to be truly accurate, it would have to be pretty massive...

I'm not biased of course. But giving TCU that much area and SMU that little area is ridicules.

Well, as an Iowa fan I would say his Iowa/Iowa State comparison isn't on the mark either. Iowa State's area would be slightly larger but I think he is going purely on football power with these comparisons.

Michigan would probably be larger as well if this was based on anything but recent success at sports.

In that light I think his TCU/SMU comparison is pretty much on the money.

We all know SMU is on the rise.

I'd say WVU's fanbase stretches into DC too.

I don't think you understood what I meant with my statement. Athletically Speaking, USC has better presence in the North State than Cal does, that's why I laughed at it taking up basically the entire northern part. They get as much exposure as Stanford does and Stanford only has that tiny speck.

The second part is more academics but also Athletics, Both schools are great institution but Stanford is leaps and bounds above Cal, hence why i said if they cant get into the top school in the West, they go with the second top pick in the West (Cal). When I graduated high school in '02, the top 5% of the class applied to Stanford and Cal, 1 kid got in to Stanford...everyone else went to Cal because they got rejected from Stanford (FYI, I was not in the top 5% )

If you guys want to talk about party school, Chico State has everyone beat.
