Kevin McNamara - Memphis to Big East?

Quote:Hearing Big East is looking hard at adding Memphis. Talks are hot and heavy and would make a whopping 17 basketball teams.

Hmm. Since this would give Louisville a hot-and-heavy new conference rival, I'm not against it. But this probably means we've had to give up on Temple.

Memphis is the most beneficial new member for Louisville, but Temple is the most beneficial for the conference as a whole.

Gee, thanks, Nova.

I see cuse and Pitt buying themselves out for 2013 so adding Memphis would get us to 11. We will add another football only for west.
East
UConn,Rutgers,USF,UCF,Louisville,Cincinati
West
Memphis,SMU,Houston,Boise,SDSt, one more

We could go to 14 when Navy arrives in 2015

Adding Memphis & Temple for 2013 would be great, then add 2 service academies for 2015.
I say add Temple, East Carolina and Memphis all three! 04-cheers

Don't think we will ever add Temple as long as Nova is aboard. We need another western team

That would push UL and Cincy to west side don't think your AD and other fans would be thrilled with that idea. Adding Memphis and another western team keeps both bearcats and cards in the east
I'd welcome Memphis. As long as they have a plan to improve their football program. Their worth in basketball is obvious, but that shouldn't give them a free pass to suck at football (once brought in). In other words, don't just let football die on the vine because they are in the conference. I agree they make a nice rivalry for Louisville.

OUr last 3 seasons have sucked...no question. But it wasnt that long ago that we were going to 5 bowls games in 6 years and consistently leading the conference in attendance. Our football will be fine. Money is in place and investments are being made.
The BE doesnt need villanovas approval for temple. Unless they want a unanamous vote temple could still get in. If memory serves i dont think rutgers, wvu and vtech got the ok from all
If it's coming out of Providence you can bet this has legs.
CJ
good to here, gives Cincinnati and Louisville a good rival and school they have tradition with.

And in reference to McNamara's tweet in the opening post of this thread: The Big East has already shown that it's not against moving to 17 basketball teams, so this is no great revelation. Memphis is no TCU in football, but then again TCU was no Memphis in basketball.

Don't like this at all if true.

Hoping to hear something On the AFA front and possibly Temple, Army or BYU.

Meh ... fess.
If memphis gets invited (and more power to them if they do) it needs to be football conditional. Certain investments, actions, and performance factors should be contractually obligated, on penalty of replacement. I know, they know, and everyone in the nBe will be ridiculed on end if we invite memphis. I'd like to be able to shut up the critics (for now), with a successful memphis football program.
Might as well accept the same promise from UNLV and New Mexico. I'd rather have either of those over memphis. True western schools that add to that division.

Im sure that would be specified. USF was asked to parade its facilities when it joined te Big East. While te reality is that thy might not be able o do the upgrades right away, there are many things thy can do to improve football. They will do fine if they win.
