Seems logical to me, both these schools add value IMO. Louisville is the clear #1 in my eyes, the question with the other school though is if you want to go further west than Lubbock or build more in the east with a program like Cincinnati to build the league more geographically between Iowa State and West Virginia.
We're Ready !:rock04-cheers: 02-13-banana
I have no idea if the expansion news is legit or not but I think I would like to see Louisville added today! As for number 12...............who knows?
Wasn't there a radio interview where Chuck Neinas said that the conference is fine at 10 members for now?
According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, nothing happened at the "expansion committe meeting" but this article does state that Louisville and BYU would be the main targets of expansion if it does happens. Ummm.................03-shhhh

I wonder if nothing is going to happen, or whether they're just waiting for WVU's legal situation to be resolved before making any more moves? 07-coffee3
After reading Neinas flare up on the realignment boards over the BE, it wouldn't surprise Me if He doesn't just send out blanket invites to all of the current 5 remaining BE fb schools just to piss off the BE. LOL!
I believe Big 12 plans to expand but it be closer to when a new TV deal.... Louisville might get in a year hold at 11 since the pay be like TCU / WVU..

So the other won't take less money...their is no clear 12 team.. At this time...

If expansion into the east is serious, then a look at proven programs in poor situations should be done. Maryland and Pitt would likely jump if given the opportunity. Cincinnati, Louisville are fine for basketball, but do they capture enough "markets" to warrant their addition. Keep in mind that the game of expansion, isn't on geography or reputation, but money. How much can we make from expansion, ie Conference Championship and TV monies...

Regardless of the legal issues, no court will force WVU to remain in the Big East. There will be penalties, but they will be managable since the parties will be willing to settle. I am somewhat biased here, but I would like to add "eastern teams" to even out the conference, if there is a move to 12. Although I like the 10 team format, it expansion is in the cards, I would choose Lousiville and PITT.
I'm hoping the rumors about Clemson and FSU are correct, and they eventually join the Big XII...
I actually don't want FSU and Clemson.
We could have added them before A&M and Mizzou left, but chose not to get back to 12. Now that WVU has been added it makes more sense to add a couple schools up north, pursue ND and BYU, and stop at 14. ND and BYU can come on over in Olympic sports. UL and UC need to come first though (not Maryland, BC, UVA, etc)

North-
KU, KSU, ISU, UL, UC, WVU, *ND
South-
Texas, OU, OSU, TTU, TCU, BU, *BYU

That's a pretty stout conference in BB, FB, WBB, Baseball.
If we just have to have 16, Navy and Air Force are the teams to add. Huge followings are a plus, decent FB play is also a plus.

04-rock Me too! 04-rock

Add those two and the Big 12 would certainly rival the SEC, if not outright BE the best football conference in the country. Plus still be in the top 2 or 3 of basketball. Rock solid!
rtXC, I'd like to keep a visible presence in Florida for recruiting. FSU opens up a big recruiting market for the Big XII, and relieves the need to rely on Texas recruiting alone...
Adding Fla. St. and Clemson would be freakin awesome!
I agree that FSU and Clemson would be an amazing grab for the Big 12. Being in Texas and Florida would be great for the league. Clemson has a very passionate fanbase and bring a nice athletic department across the board as does Florida State although I would argue the FSU fanbase is a bit more fair weather than Clemson. But what do you expect when you finish top 4 or whatever they did for some ungodly number of years straight.

I don't really like expanding west as the candidates are not as good minus PAC 12 teams. BYU is good, but not on Louisville, Clemson, or FSUs level.
FSU might as much revenue as a ND or BYU, Clemson is a different story.
Like I said, FSU and Miami should have been the priorities last spring, with Clemson and GT possibly after them, but that didn't happen. We let 2 programs walk and decided to add TCU and WVU instead of pursuing the other options. It makes sense to get back to 4 Texas schools, but adding WVU was a little premature, not necessarily in a bad way, but it was a decision that was rushed.

The important things to think about in expansion are:
Tv revenues
Location (distance, recruiting)
Relevancy in FB and BB
Relevancy in the other 2 major sports (Baseball, WBB)

While it is important to grab the best markets and programs that people will watch, it is also important to not spread the conference all across the map.Take the best OVERALL, not just in one aspect. Yes, FSU and Clemson would add a lot of money, but they would spend the extra, plus more, on increased travel for all sports. Think about Iowa State; with the idea of an eastern division with 6 other teams, why would they vote on adding those other programs? ISU needs every penny they get from tv revenues, and they would take a huge financial hit by that type of league setup, even with increased funds coming in.

Also, BYU is above UL and even Clemson's level. BYU grabs the state of Utah along with all the Mormons in America and around the world. The best part is they are pretty good in more than just one sport.
I'm not sure if the headaches involved with BYU are worth the effort...

Um, BYU doesn't grab the entire state of Utah. The Utes have a decent sized fanbase of their own, and not everyone in Utah is Mormon or likes BYU.

Clemson and Louisville are good in more than one sport as well. Louisville has made the Final 4, a BCS bowl, and the college world series all since 2005. BYU hasn't made any of those.

Clemson is a regular CWS participant and has played in BCS bowls. Their hoops program isn't up to BYU or Louisville's level though.
