Clyde! i was going to send you a pm like you suggested, but i think brainstorming works better in a group.

the #1 thing your group can do is keep getting students to turn out. it's been great so far. maybe special giveaways for the students? do you know Bilal and Tim from Pakmode? if not, let me introduce you. if anyone is in a position to set up student-only promotions, i think it would be them.

i saw a lot of greeks at the game yesterday. great to see. is there any way to reach out to other student groups? one that comes to mind immediately is the international students. my friends who were international students did a lot of activities as a big group. plus, basketball is popular internationally. i'm sure there are millions of other student groups as well. the key is introducing people to the idea of attending a game, since so few even consider it as an option.

as for cheers, it always seems like certain players on our team respond more to cheering. i'd pick an emu player and be extra loud for them during breaks in play. someone that you notice responding well to it. Travis Lewis was great for this. he ate it up. same with Danny Mac.

that's my 2 cents.
How about a "roll call" before the tip off? Typically used in baseball, but it would be quicker and easier in basketball, especially since you're so close. I'd imagine the players would eat that up as well.
Something like this (not exactly this) would be AWESOME!!!

Yes, I am well acquainted with both Bilal and Tim. Bilal has been helping us with a ton of operations stuff and Tim helped me set up our online store for students to purchase Eagle Nation Fan Section membership tshirts.

International students have not been discussed at our meetings so far. That is a great idea. We can look into it a little further.

What we have found so far this year is exactly this. "the key is introducing people to the idea of attending a game, since so few even consider it as an option." I think this is why we've had good attendance is because people show up for the first time, enjoy it, and come back.

As far as student promotions, I believe this is one of Athletics weaker points. Since any old Joe who walks in off the streets can win the MacBook, its not really geared to just students. Our org has been looking into this a little further because we would like to do a student only promotion.

SPOILER ALERT - Well not to give the full details away, but we are doing a special Eagle Nation Fan Section promotion at the Alumni Appreciation Day games Jan 28th. For more news, stay tuned to our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/EagleNationFanSection) as it will be announced within the next couple of days.

This is a great topic. We look forward to any input you guys can bring us. This thing is starting to take flight.
How about everyone paint their faces GREEN/white or everyone ware a green or white hat? Or get some green rapping paper cut into 2or3 foot strips so students could wave them when the other shoots freethrows?

How about 500 students bring in toilet paper and toss it when...

That would resault in bench T.

and maybe 600 students with toilet paper at the next game. 03-idea
A lot of good ideas here. The underlying theme is that the student section creates a new "thing" that makes the games fun for students and other fans to attend. More fun = higher attendance.

Whatever you come up with just keep it clean and within the rules (I'm sounding like an old fart now).
I'm still thinking football ideas:

Get 1,000 female students, 1,000 male students for a night game in September and have the band do "Hey, Baby (do you want to be my girl)".

Provide cards w. lyrics to all students.

It would be nice to have 2K students at a big game in September, night game :)
Get your ideas in! We are meeting tomorrow to discuss some stuff like this! The more ideas the better!

The student section needs a name. MSU has the IZZONE, call ours the "2-3 ZONE".
I love them... But...
Move the band...
Make that area strictly students and put the band somewhere else.
When this team gets rolling next year the student section as is will be too small.

You could move them to the empty space just to the left. Not a bad idea if you can get enough students to fill the void.
Leave the band where they are and move the student section behind the visitors bench like UofM had it.

If we ever got enough students it would be great to cover the whole south end and that corner.
We need to leave the band where they are because it is the last place anyone would buy a ticket for. Unless we move them upstairs.
I have no problem with the band where they are. Pep bands are almost always next to the student section. Makes any sort of collaboration easier. Filling out the rest of the section and the south section of the Upper bowl should be the concern.
