Man! I'm sick of seeing CMU kill us every year in instate recruiting.
It seems to me that our staff isn't going to compromise the quality of a prospect just because he's an in state kid. When you think about the quality of high school football from state to state, and the # of Div 1 programs in the state of Michigan I think our staff takes the guys that they want and then get better quality players from other states as opposed to maybe getting stretch kids from in state.
As far as CMU, I read somwhere Enos contract and there was a clause that 80% of the class must be from michigan. This is going to be his undoing, I'd rather WIN than lose with Michigan kids. Back to back 3 win seasons with Michigan kids, we wouldnt trade for that would we?

This is not to start a debate but who is to blame for this? The kids or the schools in the area? I would hope EMU coaches would be on these kids when they are HS juniors knocking at their HS doors.. I think also lots of kids may want to leave the state to attend college.. I also think the EMU football name brand is still being proven as a program who wins. This will take a few more years and could be why English had to go with the JUCO route for now.
I believe the 2012 has a higher percentage of Michigan high school kids that any previous English class and its also a very non JUCO class. Both are very positive signs in my opinion because it shows the program is not in need anymore of quick fixes and we are slowly turning around the perception of EMU among area high school kids.

True dat! I kinda like the California kids we are able to bring in! 80% Michigan kids? I hope Enos enjoyed being QB coach at MSU, because he may have that opportunity again...soon.
It'll always be hard to recruit Michigan kids when you have two other MAC schools in the state, both of whom have better traditional accolades. I'm ok with it, although I'd like to see more Michigan kids. Still, look at our starters from this past season. Maybe 5 of them were from Michigan. This was our best team in over a decade. If we have to recruit Ohio, Illinois, Florida, and California over Michigan to stay competitive, then we'll be fine with it. English and Anderson have done a very nice job so far with their out-of-state recruiting.

Yes, but those quick fixes have been pretty darn good! LThomas, Pollard, Poole, Cudworth, Pali, etc, etc. Can't wait for Kurtz this year.

Agree with Bob.

I'd be glad to have more transfers or JUCOs.

One reason we'll have less JUCOs is that we lost the JUCO DTs, Laudermill and his teammate, Jones, whom we really wanted.

I'd like to pivot and say that English's recruiting (evaluation) has gotten better and better.

That said, I have no problems with JUCOs to plug holes and frosh to learn behind them.
I'm not debating that Bob the quick fixes were needed because the defense has to improve. Expressing another opinion I believe a majority of this incoming freshmen class will be redshirted another positive sign.

As to Enos there is no question about it the guy can flat out recruit, the question with Enos is can he coach or pick a staff that can? So far the answer is not very well.
MI has a smaller population than OH, FL, and IL. Plus HS football is a bigger deal in some states like OH and TX. The bottom line is that there are more D1 calibur players in the other states. The #15 kid in MI might not be in the top 50 in one of those states. Likewise, #50 in OH might be #20 in MI.

It's a numbers game. As long as RE and staff make a legitimate effort to get MAC calibur players in MI then I'm ok with it. CMU can get all the MI recruits they want but that may not help that much. Last time I checked they finished at the bottom of the MAC West. Hope they keep Enos.

Plus Toledo 40 miles to the south of us, who traditionally do very well poaching Michigan kids.
Dear Friends,
I would sure like to know what does a high school player finally decide what school they will attend? I'm sure it's a combination of factors, liking the coach, facilities, schedule, etc. Do they look at the competition in their position, or is that not a factor? For example, using Central as the school of discussion. They recruited two quarterbacks this session, and have three on the roster returning for 2012. There's a very good chance only two, three at the most, will see any real playing time. Should that be part of your decision as a player, or does one feel they are better, so they think they will beat out everyone else? Or, have you been told by the staff that you will be redshirted, and your year is coming?
