From you guys on the MWC side of things,

Do you like the idea?

Do you think there are "expansion" candidates out there that have the resources to do the travel this merger would require?

I think it depends largely on what the new BCS contract holds for the current non-AQ's.

But it is one way to expand market value as far as a TV contract is concerned. Unfortunately, it won't make the merged conferences any more impervious to poaching from the big 6 conferences.

As for travel, with the number of teams, it will be set up in a way that minimizes long travel, especially for the Oly sports. So I don't foresee too many Fresno St - ECU games.
Wow..... 1 reply.
18 is ok, adding Temple and Arky St, but I'd prefer 24 ( actually 32 is preferable).

West- UH, FS, SJSU, UNLV, Nev, USU
Mtn- CSU, AF, WYO, UNM, UTEP, Tulsa
Central- Rice, UNT, Ark St, Tulane, TxSt, LaTech/UTSA
East- ECU, UAB, USM, Marshall, FIU, Temple/FAU

That provides a solid area with regional rivalries and decent play
I think the addition of ARK st. is great. They are voting in a few weeks on a master plan that involves football facilities, it is expected to pass. Includes lux seating new press boxes, Inddoor facility(feild house) est 100mill for football alone..Ark st is heading in the right direction and i really cant believe CUSA hasnt contacted them bc they are the Reason Memphis jumped at BE offer.. Memphis is fighting to stay ahead of them 47-3 defeat kiinda hurt UM
Temple is off to the Big East.
C-USA East: UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Marshall, South Alabama, Southern Miss
C-USA West: Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, Tulane, Tulsa
MWC East: Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, New Mexio State, Utah State, Wyoming
MWC West: Fresno State, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, UNLV, San Jose State

Who wants Latech and S. ALabama in...NObody...they both stink in all sports
C-USA East: UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Marshall, South Alabama, Southern Miss

So your telling me you would add S. alabama over FIU,FAU,MTSU and WKU..which all have better attendance and markets. Are you nuts
Also you would add N texas and Latech over a Ark st..Ark st and North texas would be the better bet..NT just built a really nice stadium and has a good market for cusa to keep. ASU has good facilities and more on the way. ASU also has money. They are the only SBC team with a coach over 1mill/year. Would also keep CUSA in the Memphis market
Yes I would because they would be playing their home games Ladd Pebbles Stadium and UAB needs a rival school in the conference.
Sun Belt East: Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Middle Tennessee, Troy, Western Kentucky
Sun Belt West: Arkansas at Little Rock, Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana at Monroe, Texas at Arlington, Texas at San Antonio, Texas State
Again S. alabama will be one of the last SBC teams to be contacted.
Not only that but UAB sucks so lets add a Local for them to play LOL

No common sense or financial sense..

You must look at programs on the move...UAB is a bottom dweller..S. Alabama isn't even FBS yet.. La tech will always be a mid major programs bc of the lack of support from fan base and no market to really appeal to.

North Texas=DAllas market, Willing to build new stadium and grow its program
Ark St= Memphis and little Rock market. Pays coach x2 what most SBC school pay for coaching at 1.1 mill/yr
FIU/FAU=miami market. Big Schools with potential to have great athletic programs

S. alabama is nowhere near an alliance candidate
This all about football.
Louisiana Tech can split their home games between the Independence Bowl in Shreveport and their on campus stadium in Ruston, Louisiana.
