Down 6 at the half. Had a 15-6 lead early on and then went completely cold. Harper has looked pretty good, but no one else has stood out.
Tie game with 2 minutes left...
Eastern pulls it off 51-48!

Antonio Green, who had a pretty rough game, hit a 3 with 1.5 seconds left to seal it. We were down by as many as 8 points in the 2nd half. Neither team played very well, but we really clamped down defensively and hit some clutch shots down the stretch. Good win!

Green hits a trey with 1.5 seconds for the W.

51 - 48 can be ugly but ugly Ws are Ws...

Nice win on the road!!
Also worth noting:

-Harper and Lampley hardly played at all in the 2nd half. Green brought the ball up and Sims and Dailey shared the other guard spot. Riley didn't play much either. It was Green-Sims-Dailey-Harris-Balkema for the final 8 minutes or so, I believe.

-Free throws killed BSU. They missed a bunch.

-Once again, I can't point a finger at any of our guys and say "they were the reason we won". No one stood out. Green's 3 was awesome, but he had quite a few big turnovers. Harris played great defensively (as usual), but went 0-3 from the FT line.

-We will always have a chance to win in the MAC if our opponent can't make their outside shots. Ball State was ice cold from three point range. Our defensive and rebounding efforts have been very consistent.
The BSU announcer thought Lamps might have tweaked something.

Harris will improve a lot next year, I think, if this team is able to get to a faster offense.

Interesting but EMU tried to milk the clock for 20 seconds of each possession before starting their sets.

BSU pressed EMU to change tempo and get EMU out of their 20 second stall.
I'm torn. I think I'd rather see Eastern play an exciting, fundementally sound game and lose than win a turnover filled, poor shooting slopfest. Please coach Murphy, push the tempo, I really cannot stand to watch (or listen) to this team much longer.

Groan pull is what I heard, it is going to be a doy to day to thing.

That would be a groin pull which caused a groan, no doubt.

Dear Bob Wickersham,
Sometimes those ugly wins can change a season into a nice one. Let's remember, Coach Murphy is probably running the kind of offense to keep Eastern in most games. We (and I don't know much about basketball offenses) may not have the kind of players yet, to open it up, as you suggest.

The groan could have come from hearing that EMU beat BSU and NIU is beating CMU putting EMU in a first place tie in the MAC West.
Ugly or not, it sure doesnt matter to me. A win is a win.

I think we have all come to grips that this just isnt a very good team. However, the fun I get out of watching this team is knowing that they are going to grow as a unit and play competitive basketball as the next couple years come upon us.

When you dont have the talent to compete, the only hope you have is to slow the game down and make timely shots down the stretch.

Agree 100%.

I know, but the lack of offensive progress is maddening. I don't blame Murphy, he's trying make chicken salad out of chicken ****. I get all that, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch. Bottom line, we are not going to have a good season no matter what we do. This year is a waste, I wish we could fastforward to next season. It also doesn't excuse all the damn turnovers! It does not take talent to take care of the basketball. This is a very fundementally unsound team to go with its obvious lack of talent.

Something Boone and Ramsey couldn't or more than likey (Boone) wouldn't do.
As someone who saw the game and has seen most of Ball State's games this year, Eastern would in all likelihood have been blown out had they tried to run with Ball State. The Eagles won the only way they could, by slowing the game down and forcing Ball State to shoot long jump shots most of the day when the shots simply weren't falling. The Cardinals never solved Eastern's zone defense. Also, I believe Eastern really wanted the game more than Ball State. Why is inexplainable. Eastern played harder than the Cardinals for most of the game. Ball State played not to lose in the final 3-4 minutes, an almost certain formula for failure in an ugly game like this one was. Congratulations on the win. It will be really interesting to see what happens when the two teams meet again in Ypsi.

Groan pull! LOL! I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but what a fine descriprtion of the team.
man! i'm so happy to hear about this win. i was in and out of airports all day so i wasn't able to listen. this is a fine thing to come home to.

i just looked back at my preseason prediction. it was 9-22. 4-12 in the MAC. it's possible we'll top that. no doubt it's ugly winning 51-48, but with this team i'll take any win i can get. particularly on the road at Ball State.

i love hearing from LongTimeFan that it looked like EMU wanted it more tonight. speaks well to the character of the team and the efficacy of the new coaches.

and good for green. i've been a fan of his from the get-go. nice for him to hit a game winner. remember Cashen hitting that game winner from behind the arc his senior season? was that against Ball State? another nice moment for a senior player.
