Anybody have any experience with these?

I have to house two dogs for a close friend for a couple of months and don't have a fenced in back yard.

Thanks
I have no personal experience with them, but have friends who swear by them.
they work. but beware that while it keeps your dogs IN (assuming it's electrical and the power doesn't go out) it will NOT keep others out.

then there's other larger dogs coming in...
rural area? wolves, etc.
makes me nervous.
I installed one myself. Works great.

Easy install, works great, no above ground fencing required.

Doesn't keep other animals out. If your dog does get out, he will be less likely want to try to get back in. You create a boundary that makes a beeping noise on the collar to let the dog now he is approaching the fence. Typically you have a dial that you can turn up that makes the signal stronger and this is recommended for larger dogs.

There are also options where you can buy a wireless system. When the dog gets a certain distance from the Control Center - he will get a warning and then a shock if he gets out of range. Haven't heard of too many pros/cons to this - but I would guess that there could be interference from other sources at times.

Hope that helps.
One fence, indivisible with electricity and energy for all.
Works like a charm. Used to have a beagle. My dad put one up around his garden after the dog would constantly go in his garden and not only tear everything up, but eat just about everything he could get his paws on. Every now and then I would toss a treat across the yard to where it would land in the garden and watch the dog sprint like the dickens, only to come to a complete stop when he reached the "fence line." LOL

LOL
Keep in mind an indivisible fence cannot be divided!
LOL! You guys! I just noticed I misspelled invisible.

Thanks just the same.
We have two - one for the outer perimeter and one around the house to keep him out of the flower beds and the garage. It works great for us, but our dog is a German Shepherd and he's fixed so other dogs coming into the area are not a concern on the rare occasion he allows it.

I have a friend who uses the wireless system. They are a bit more expensive and have a much smaller range if I remember right.
A friend of mine used one and it was great for a while...the dog out smarted it though.

The way this one worked the dogs collar would beep as a warning to back up if he got near the "fence"...well the dog figured out that if he he stayed near the perimeter until the beeping stopped, he could bolt as he had run the batteries down in his collar- smart dog!!!
If a dog really wants out, they will go through it, regardless of the noise or shock they feel. Then they are "stuck" outside their yard and cannot come back in.

Also, an invisible fence does not keep other animals out, and the dog could be cornered in their own yard and not able to escape.

I know several people who got them and their dogs learned to blow right through the fence and they kept on going. They would not come back because they knew they would be shocked again.

I would never ever leave the dog unattended with an invisible fence. There are people that drive around looking for dogs to steal.
I know nothing about this, but have had a few neighbors with them. From what I've observed and from their comments, they work like a charm. One complaint I've heard from a next door neighbor with two small poodles... Lighting storms would set off the collars from time to time and obviously freak the dogs out.
