NFL Network's Albert Breer has heard "continually" that Bengals OC Jay Gruden is the favorite to be the Jaguars' next head coach.
Jacksonville has targeted almost strictly offensive coordinators in its coaching search. Jon's younger brother, Jay Gruden has earned a reputation for tutoring young quarterbacks via his work with Andy Dalton. Gruden cannot interview with the Jaguars until after Saturday's game against Houston, at soonest, but it sounds like he's still high on Jacksonville's short list. Gruden would implement a "horizontal" West Coast offense after Blaine Gabbert played his first year in Dirk Koetter's (theoretically) vertical-based scheme.
I'm much more worried about losing Zimmer.
Saw a piece on NFL network (I think it was Mike Mayock) suggesting Zimmer would be a great fit for the Tampa Bay job. I'd much rather lose Marvin than Gruden or especially Zimmer; unfortunately it almost certainly won't work that way - whether it's this year or next year.
I don't want to lose any of them. I want continuity going into next year, while so many teams are blowing their coaching staffs and rosters up in rebuilding mode.
Well I'm sure the Executive of the Year will pony up the cash for raises.

Raises aren't going to keep any coordinators from taking a HC job.
And some people laughed when we hired an "Arena" coach.

People laughed at the Rams when they signed an Arena Ball QB....

I didn't. I applauded the Bengals for "thinking outside of the usual box". I thought it was a great hire at the time, and he hasn't disappointed at all.
Anything was going to be an improvement over Bratkowski.
Not that one game changes much, but if I had to bet, I'd think Gruden and Zimmer will both be back with the Bengals next year. I just think most GMs will favor either an ex head coach or a coordinator whose side of the ball was a little more dominating than either of the Bengals were this year overall. Throw in the preference to get a guy from an organization with a stronger winning culture and results and I just don't see Zimm or Gruden getting the call this year. Of course it just takes one organization to see it differently so we'll see.
