COVINGTON — Police said they arrested two alleged Grinches that stole Christmas toys from the Marine Toys for Tots warehouse in St. Bernard after a search of a house in Covington.

Nathan Rose, 41, and Jessie Simpson, 25, were charged with receiving stolen property and tampering with physical evidence in Kentucky. Additional charges of felony breaking and entering in Hamilton County and extradition are in process.

St. Bernard Police said two crime stopper tips lead them to the Covington house.

With a search warrant, police recovered $10,000 worth of stolen toys. The two primary suspects admitted to the crime and cooperated with police, allowing officials to recover another $20,000 worth of items from a storage bin in Cincinnati, St. Bernard police said.

Police estimate they have recovered 90 percent of the goods stolen. St. Bernard police worked with police departments in Erlanger and Covington to make the arrests.

About 2,000 toys were stolen in the Christmas weekend burglary.

The investigation is ongoing.
