Can we just forget about this kid? He clearly wants to be the next QB at Fresno State. I say, good luck. Hope it works out.

I say goodbye a long time ago to this kid, but I still hope I am wrong.. I must say I like Mouton better for us..
Dear NUPudge,
I tend to think along with you on Mouton, however, a Scout.com article says Navy is pushing hard for this recruit, and I wonder if Eastern is doing the same? The only two quarterbacks we have been recruiting, with any interest, seem to be Baker and Mouton. If, neither shows up.... who else is out there?

Couple qb prospects in FL which WMU has offered Eastern could take a late run at. Also Brian Clearly from U of D Jesuit.
Dear TimBuck2,
We have not offered Brian Cleary from U -D Jesuit. Not that that couldn't change, but ever since he has been on the Scout.com site, Eastern has not offered, and the last time I looked neither had anyone else.
Maybe the quarterback position is not a huge demand this recruiting year, we do have two sitting in the wings, and maybe the coaching staff feels there are other priorities that need to be met.
I assume it is a Mouton, Eric Williams (OH) and a prayer as our top 3 prospects, in that order.

I no longer count on Baker. I assume he has burned his bridge.

As I suggest in another thread, I'd think the weekend of Jan 13 is absolutely important for us as a recruiting weekend.

Right, as I said Kenny, Eastern could take a run at Cleary still...
Dear Freinds,
Just checked both Arizona and Fresno State's rosters and recruits, according to Scout.com. Arizona has two quarterbacks returning, and has two verbals from recruited quarterbacks (although one is a 'soft' verbal).
Fresno State has four quarterbacks listed on their roster, and they are all underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores). No recruited quarterbacks as yet.
I know many of you have soured on Mike Baker, but If these are his two preferences (Arizona and Fresno State) I wonder what he is looking for, other than what I have stated before, playing nearer to home. The best he could do in these situations, is a walk-on. I really can't see either offering, because if things stay the way they appear, they both will have four quarterbacks on their rosters.

Good observations Ken.

I hope the QB and his father counted and assessed the QBs on the Fresno roster before getting too deep in the recruiting process.

Doesn't Fresno also have a new head coach and staff?

Curious if he could walk-on at Fresno? Big gamble I would say.

I am wondering if English had a choice between the two QB if he would still choose Baker over Mouton?

I still prefer Mouton over Baker because he would fit into the current offense (run 1st with options) Beside he is faster and would allow us to run the option with a options.

Rival.com had this article (below) about Baker:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The old Fresno State coaching staff wasn't interested in recruiting three-star pro-style quarterback Mike Baker but now that they've been replaced the Fresno (Calif.) Central East standout hopes things are different.

Baker said he hopes to hear from Fresno State's coaches.
Baker, who shined in the Cal State Game Friday, made it clear that he'd like to stay close to home and that Fresno State would be a great fit.

"I really want to talk to the Fresno State coach because I would stay in the valley," Baker said.

"That was a good thing to me (that the old staff is no longer there). The other guys that were here didn't want to recruit the valley hard so I hope (new coach Tim DeRuyter) does and comes talk to me. I would like to stay in the valley if I could and to play football here.

"I was thinking about it, I was talking to my dad, it wasn't something they wanted but they're gone and now I hope the guys that come in can come recruit me."

Baker, rated No. 26 at pro-style quarterback in the 2012 class and No. 70 in the California state rankings by Rivals.com, took an official visit to Eastern Michigan and will consider that program but wants to see what Fresno State does first.

"I took my official out to Eastern Michigan and I'm just going to let the recruiting process play out a little longer and I'll make my decision a little later," Baker said.

"I went out there to see how it was because I was never on that side of the country. The whole atmosphere was different when I got there. It's something to think about it and I am thinking about it but I might want something else."

In his senior season, Baker threw for 2,436 yards with 28 touchdowns and nine int

I think this says a-lot about were EMU ranks with this young man.. I wish him luck with his recruiting but he better be smart about this because time is ticking..
Sounds like its between signing here and walking on at Fresno. We are clearly a last resort, which isn't a horrible thing (although I do wonder if this kid is overrated, since he appears to have no other D1 offers).

I'd take him still, assuming he'd be fully committed to our program. I do agree with you in that I think I'd rather have Mouton, though.

Don't forget about Eric Williams, either. 3 star according to rivals and has offers from us, Toledo, and Cincy.

I would love to have him (Williams) but I think he is more of a reach then Baker.. I think one thing that's against us is we are not a passing offense and we have no big-time WR.
Eric Williams comments on recruiting as of 12/20/2011 it is similar to another Rival article about Illinois.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quarterback Eric Williams transferred to Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius last January from Oregon, and proceeded to put up an outstanding senior season which culminated in a Division I state title for the Wildcats.

The 6-3, 191-pound Williams was already a Division I recruit heading into his senior year and had collected offers from Cincinnati and Eastern Michigan. Communication with those teams has since died off, but new schools are entering the picture for Williams.

Iowa and Central Florida are among the new teams showing interest in Cleveland quarterback Eric Williams
"Iowa came into the picture about two weeks ago and I took an official visit last weekend," Williams said. "The program seems like it has a good head on its shoulders. They know what they want out of their players and the coaches seem like they have a goal in mind. I really liked all the coaches, especially Coach [Ken] O'Keefe and Coach [Kirk] Ferentz."

The Hawkeyes have not yet offered Williams a scholarship, but they plan to discuss that with the three-star signal caller soon.

"They told me approximately early on this week, so I should be hearing from them in the next couple days about whether or not I'll get offered," Williams said. "I know they are looking at a junior college kid too, so I am still kind of waiting on that."

Other schools that still remain active in Williams' recruitment are Central Florida, Marshall, Harvard and Yale. Central Florida's interest in Williams just surfaced in the last week and appears strong.

"They just came by the school this week," said Williams of UCF. "They said if I come down to their campus they have an offer there for me. I'm trying to get out there in early January if I can. I'm still talking about it with my family."

Williams finished his senior season at St. Ignatius with 2,200 passing yards, 24 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. He completed 19-of-31 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns in St. Ignatius' 34-13 state title game win over Pickerington Central earlier this month.

Why not take 2 QB's in this class??? Is there a possibility that Benz or Ianotti could change positions???

Maybe Ianotti, he is about 255 now... Maybe move him to LB or TE
I'd take two QB in a heartbeat neither Benz or Ianotti appear to be the answer at QB long term.

I don't know about Emu79 but here are my reasons:

1) Neither one has beat out our starting QB.
2) If either were better then English would had played them.
3) English is working so hard on getting us another QB
4) in the Michigan game this year, did you see the sick pass that Benz threw that was picked off and changed the game.
