There is the conventional style of using east/west, but with the conference name being Big East, and the membership of the divisions not necessarily being divided along an east/west line, it makes more sense to me to use more creative division names (although the Big Ten's Legends/Leaders reeks too much of hubris to me).

My suggestions:
  • Colonial/Frontier
  • Patriot/Pioneer

Other ideas?
Red and Blue. That's what other Big East sports use. And they're the two colors in the Big East logo.

Conference name: Big Country

Division names: None, with ONLY TEN TEAMS!!!
Founders and Frontier Divisions.
We should sell the names of the divisions like we sell stadium naming rights. We could either sell both divisions' names to one company for one huge lump sum:
  • Buick Division & Cadillac Division, brought to you by GM, or
  • Taco Bell Division & Pizza Hut Division, brought to you by Yum! or
  • Cheetos Division & Doritos Division, brought to you by Frito-Lay
Or sell them separately for two slightly smaller amounts which add up to even more!
  • Acid-Blocking Division, brought to you by Prilosec, and Safety Division, brought to you by State Farm Insurance, or
  • Bounty Division, brought to you by Procter & Gamble, and Hellman's Division, brought to you by Unilever, or
  • Rogaine Division, brought to you by Johnson & Johnson, and ChapStick Division, brought to you by Pfizer
College sports is now all about the money. Why not make as much as we possibly can?
I like Patriot/Pioneer Divisions a lot, but Red/Blue is simpler and better unless there is too much of a Political inference. They're both better than East/West.

You shameless whore! 03-lmfao
Colonial & Frontier make sense. The names must be logical, and anyone with half a brain should know that Connecticut would be in the Colonial division and Boise would be in the Frontier division.

We must avoid a situation like the ACC where the casual fan cannot differentiate between their Atlantic & Coastal divisions. Just going by the division names, it's impossible to guess which schools are in each division (e.g., is NC State an "Atlantic" school or a "Coastal" school; I can't tell).

The division names have to mean something. They can't be arbitrary. "Colonial" & "Frontier" pass the test. Trust me, I'm a marketing major.
BIG & EAST divisions, its a play on the conference name. Obviously the western division is pretty wide spread, so BIG would be fitting. This way everyone is happy. Basketball doesnt have the change its conference name. Football can continue to try to make football only work. You get rid of the stigma of SDSU and Boise State not belonging in the BIG EAST because now they put the BIG in the BIG EAST.

I like my corporate sell-out proposal best. But if that's not adopted, this one is #2.

I also think Colonial Division & Frontier Division would work... But still prefer Atlanic Division & Pacific Division. I hope they don't do something stupid like Leaders and Legends... Who would approve such a lame name like that?

And what about for Houston and SMU who are no where near the Pacific or the Atlantic. Will we fall into the Gulf division?
