Lesson learned! 03-2thumbsup
TIME marches on !

We were impressed by the miraculous turnabout by the Bronco Football Team this season.
Wait 'til next year!
All is right with the world. Well, not quite. There was the Lions.........

We were also very surprised and impressed, by the large number of Watch Parties convened throughout
the country for the Bowl Game.

Perhaps, this could be a basis for establishing a Functioning Alumni Association?
You may remember, Chapters,Officers, Meetings, Guest Speakers, and Activities, along with
Watch Parties, Memberships, and Membership Cards, Discounts, and Yes, Membership Dues.

BTW, what ever happened to all those LifeTime Membership Dues monies?
Trips to Florida?

Of course, there are a few WMU Alumni, that have voiced the opinion that,
"Any organization that would have me as a member, I wouldn't want to join anyway!"
Quote: G. Marx (no, not K. Marx, the other one)

It makes one wonder, if there's anyone capable of knowing and understanding, how
to develop any kind of organizational structure to operate a Functioning Alumni Association,
among the some forty-four staff members.

Finally, we see the Prez has gone "incommunicado" and not posted a schedule for about the last
six weeks. Apparently, they're still looking for the "leaks".

Famous Saying: LIFE, among other things, is a series of adjustments and corrections.
Way to put in concise meaning
When is the completion of Alumni Center? Bricks to be sold which sounds good and when is the cutoff? Southeastern would like to know next ALUMNI EVENT is scheduled?http://csnbbs.com/images/smilies/cogs.gif
Impressionable

While many of us suffered through the first season0f Coach Fleck's dynasty, the
previous season certainly gave us new hope for a bright future for the FB team, and WMU's future.

Even though some WMU Alumni had given up hope, and abandoned our Alma Mater, as I mentioned,
during the disappointing season, and as we noted in the "Benefit of the Doubt" comments to the
"dilemma at hand", during that season.
At some time in our lives, or several times in our lives, we've been the "new person" at work, in the office, on the team, in class, etc,
and been less than accepted.
Some of us even gave or tried to give Beatle Bailey the benefit of the doubt, when many of our colleagues did not.
Of course, that didn't last long.

We believe that you have to be an extraordinary person to "put it all out there" for others to see
and judge, unlike others on the University staff, who try to hide their short-comings,
that are best described as an academic version of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"!

Many of us have followed the Broncos, our Alma Mater, for many decades.
We are the Ever-Hopeful, and always the Loyal Bronco Alumni, that will always keep the faith.

mysteriously deleted from this thread after a couple of hours.
It didn't sound that bad.
JH - Has this thread resulted in any action or dialogue on WMU's part?
HONEST QUESTIONS,
that reveal a lot.....

Collectively, and individually, we've been discussing ideas and concerns, in brief meetings e-mails,
and telephone calls for over the past three years.
We would't say that it's resulted in anything but trying "to keep a lid" on us.

If we had to summarize all this "dialog", it could best be described as a collection of
"Let's Play, Fool the Alumni!", or
Tell them what they want to hear, then do as little as possible.
There's really no Meet and Confer.
If it's my idea, it's OK. If it's your idea, it's going nowhere.

If you operate with the premise, that the majority of your assets are directed towards self promotion, and
the 5% Large Donors to maximize your SHORT TERM GOALS of a quick return on your monies expended,
you can see what happens to the 95% of the lesser important Alumni.
Go Fish!

That being said, we are encouraged by the apparent commitment to an increased number of events
posted to engage ALL LOYAL BRONCO ALUMNI.
If this is being brought forth as an initial step in a process to establish a Functioning Alumni Association,
"YEA!",
most of us couldn't be happier!
Some may remember, Management By Objectives vs. Decision Making by Ouija Board?
Goals and Objectives, etc, etc.......

Recently overheard at the WMU Administration Building,
"What are we going to do? I don't know, the bell rang!'

VOLUNTEERS ?

Given all the planned social activities for WMU Alumni in the next several months,
will there be a solicitation for volunteers to assist in coordinating future Alumni Events?

Why hasn't there been a WMU Alumni Golf Outing in Southeastern Michigan for years?

Are these "Social Events" simply to placate Alumni, with the intention of keeping them from
intruding into WMU affairs?

Possibly some staff person could assume a leadership role, and take,
what some might consider an "academic approach",
and solicit comments and recommendations from the WMU Alumni themselves,
through an Alumni Survey?

A survey is really not a novel idea.
Some might consider this to be a reflection of a Professional-Management Approach.
Perhaps, it depends on if you wish to be perceived as being Progressive or Regressive.

Question of the day:
Since the Golden Parachute has been released, can the Downtown Arena be far behind?

Overheard outside the WMU's President's Office:
"I've been living in a Fool's Paradise!"

SPLIT PERSONALITIES

Given all the recent and planned Alumni Socials, has anyone signed up to serve
as Local Alumni Association Chapter Officers?
Perhaps, now is an excellent opportunity to reestablish the Local Alumni Chapters,
and separate the "money seekers" from the Loyal Bronco Alumni.

We see the Pres is on the road again to Malaysia.
It seems that he spends more time (and money) talking to Malaysians and
Dominicans, than he does talking to Alumni in Michigan.
Did he take the Band too?

Ominous clouds on the horizon indicate, that a HB just introduced by a
State Rep, is calling for changes in the State Open Meetings Act, to correct
the activities of State Universities to avoid discussing and revealing, their
less than open meetings maneuvering.
Is the "writing on the wall" (blackboard)?

Memo
To: The Ranting Accountant
Subject: Unbalanced Books
You might inquire about adjusting, and/or changing your meds.
And BTW, I wouldn't believe everything you've been told.
These are the same people that said,"We're not here to solve problems,
we're here to assign blame!" (lack of managerial creativity)

In what sport? Who said anything about that?

We haven't won an NCAA championship since 1965 in Men's Cross Country - a sport that no longer exists on campus.
Why doesn't Western Michigan University participate in the University night at Tiger Stadium?

Tell us more, BroncoLucy.

Are you saying Broncos don't support the Tigers? or what?
I'm curious, too. Who dropped the ball on this one? Eastern, Central, MSU, and UofM? No Western?!?

Even Oakland University and Wayne State Universities are participating......maybe the Tigers didn't invite WMU or maybe next year.

I'm hearing that the official line from Development is that they got the information too late to participate. This makes no sense to me, considering that all the other schools were able to make it happen.

Yet another missed opportunity on the East side of the state for WMU.

Especially considering the man in charge of the Tigers is a WMU alum! 03-banghead
the road less traveled..........

By now, several of the Stampede followers have noted a possible bias,
against the WMU Alumni in Southeastern Michigan.

Among the most recent social faux pas were attempts by the "Ranting Accountant"
to elevate his imangined status at the expense of other Non-GR Alumni, by his transparent Golf Outing comments.
Is it really just the Meds?
BTW, despite our academic achievement, most people on this board are fairly smart.

The abence of WMU from the planned Commerica Park activity, should be embarrassing enough,
to initiate an Official Inquiry.

Efforts last year to have the Pres speak at a local CC, saw the meeting regulated to a bar
for millenniums in Royal Oak.

Recently, BP noted a positive experience at a formally, Annual Southeastern Michigan WMU
Alumni Golf Outing, several years ago.
We even mentioned and discussed it with the Director at a meeting several years ago.
Can we hear those excuses again?

Our efforts to have the FB coach address the Southeastern Michigan WMU Alumni, through promises
for such a meeting were made at least three times by the AD, has never occurred.
Given the poor record of keeping promises by the WMU Administration and staff, many are not
surprised by this lack of professionalism.

Then there's the "WMU Outpost" on Woodward avenue, that opened with much "fanfare",
and seems to serve no meaningful purpose.

There appears to be a lackof interest by WMU Administration towards Alumni in Southeastern Michigan.
Many assume that , THIS IS NOT BY ACCIDENT, BUT BY DESIGN.

Also, it has come to mind, in a more academic sense, that this attitude and lack of presence by WMU
in Southeastern Michigan, might just DEVALUE the degree from Western Michigan University.

What do you think?

The AD doesn't control the football coach. At all.

Also, why would the administration show a lack of interest in SE Michigan 'BY DESIGN'?
