I know we have bigger fish to fry but while waiting for the bowl game, I keep wondering how NIU is going to handle the Iowa game. Will we see similar ticket distribution policy as with Wisconsin? Will the lack of a sell out cause NIU to come down with prices substantially, or will NIU put all its eggs in the basket of Iowa on Labor Day weekend sold out last time, so it will this time. I have a feeling it will be the latter and that NIU will count on a sellout. I fear this could be a mistake and I think ticket prices should be trimmed some from Wisconsin. Also, do you think we are locked into ESPN3 again since ESPN will quickly claim the rights to the game. What do you guys think, and should NIU do anything differently this time around.
Regardless of how they handle it my wife and I will be there! I think that this game will sell out quickly as it did the last time. I plan to get my tickets as early as possible. I hope that NIU does not cut the price too far back, our program needs the money and I think the game will sell out.
I think this game sells out. Iowa seems to have more bandwagon fans in Illinois than Wisconsin.

The contract with Iowa calls for the same ticket distribution policy as we had for the 2007 SF game. Link
I noticed this interesting paragraph : 200 free tickets to Soldier Field Group in exchange for 200 free parking spaces. Who gets those tickets? nice cash business if you can get it ...[/code]
Since it is the same terms as our 2007 game, Iowa has skin in the game and will promote it and get there fans to come. Also, Iowa is not as good as in previous years and this will be a big game for them. They will want a good turnout because they will want a win for every non-conference game.

Thanks for the link! I wonder how fast after the bowl game NIU will begin to sell tickets. From what I can tell, Iowa is expected to be pretty strong next year, maybe not preseason top 25, but in that solidly preseason receiving votes range. Probably going to be a tough one, but our 65-10 combined score has to be improved upon in SF!

Here's another question: how fast after the bowl game will people start to whine about us playing another game at SF? 03-lmfao

haha I know I won't complain since this game was always intended to be at SF. Hey is that Barry alvarezs name scratched off in that link. They could have at least used fresh paper for a new Iowa contract :). I think a strategy with these SF games should be exclusive season openers. Fans come out for those games...usually long weekends and everyone feels like they are bcs contenders. I wonder how much difference it would have made for Wisconsin.
Wisconsin at SF did bad because it was the 3rd game of the season and the only week that wasn't at home for Wisconsin and priced too high... A recipe for failure.

Iowa will sell out. People look forward to the start of the football season every year, clean slate for every team with everyone thinking this is our year. So I think both sides will do very well with sales and sell it out not as fast as the first time, but by mid-August.
This will sell out or be very close. It has the two things needed to be very very attractive:

1) Labor Day weekend
2) FIrst game of the season
fathuskie & HFF are correct.

That being said it would be nice if they shaved the $90/75/60 tiers to maybe $85/65/50 or 40. Of course, if they sense the demand is there which unfortunately will be mostly from Iowa they might have it like Wisky.
Reading this over, I was wondering how much of an opportunity we have to collect revenue from merchandise sales? It states that we can negotiate with SMG for all university sales. I wonder if this is a way to add revenue. I also like how we have to give complementary tickets to the SMG in order to receive free parking passes at Soldier Field. Only in Chicago!

Youz got a problem wit dat? 05-mafia05-mafia05-mafia
Not only does Iowa have lots of bandwagon fans and "subway alumni" (what else is there to do in Iowa; they have a large alumni presence in Illinois. I have 3 second cousins and a niece who are Iowa grads all went to HS in the burbs.
Even though I can't attend I already have people asking me to buy them tickets. So far I am at 10.
So many kids from the west suburbs go to Iowa that it should have the same reputation as NIU - a suitcase school for kids who want to stay close to mommy and daddy.

/not really, but there I said it.
Wisconsin got the first million and niu got the 2nd, so wisconsin did not push ticket sales because they were going get paid. In the Iowa game Iowa got the 2nd half of the money so they pushed ticket sales so they knew they would get paid. That is why the wisconsin game did not sell out. Wisconsin did not invest in selling tickets they did not need to, to get there money.
I know several people who go to Iowa who will be going to this game. I think it will sell out and it will be a great game to start off our season with.

I wish it was the 2nd or 3rd game. We'll have a pretty new offense, player-wise, in that game.
