I'm really not being comical or attempting to further lambaste and I never was one who thought I could feel this way about the given topic.

But...if Simeon played our D-1 Huskies, I not only think they (Simeon)would be favored, but I think they would win. Perhaps hands down.

All logic seems to point to us losing to the #1 prep team in the country. We start/play many kids who were playing prep last year...and not nearly as well as Simeon plays it. They are used to winning and know how to. They have a future lottery pick and several D-1 kids. They have height. That major maturation process that one would think...we do not have over them.

Why would we beat them. B/c we have veterans Toler, Storm and Nixon? It's very possible that some of our starters would be coming of THEIR bench.

I look forward to the years forthcoming that I can convince myself that we can beat any prep team down the road.
Being older, bigger and more mature should bring some additional physicality, strength and mental toughness to the Huskies, which could change the Simeon game. Weight programs in college are a huge differentiator.

But really, this application of best prep team vs middling Div 1 team can be applied to any sport in the country. The best prep X team could probably beat a fair number of college X teams at any time of the year, in any sport, even in Div 1.

Be fun to watch, but only if the Huskies could guarantee victory.
Iguess they would also beat U-W Milwaukee and Depaul. Niu lost to Milwaukee by a pt. and Milwaukee beat Depaul. Simeon may not even win the state title. These comparisons are silly!
NIU would win by 60 this is so ridiculous.

Interesting how UW-Milwaukee almost upset the 14th ranked Badgers, and NIU almost beat the Panthers!
Parker could keep Simeon in the game, other than that, I don't see them coming close to beating us

Milwaukee handled DePaul in Rosemont too.
Simeon's starting lineup might be more talented with Parker, Nunn, and Taylor but NIU would win the game going away. They'd wear Simeon down and there's some guys off the bench Simeon wouldn't be able to use with any success against college players.
Talent and knowledge not the same. College basketball knowledge and high school not even close. The game is so different from high school to college. Simeon is great. The would get killed. All NIU player have talent. It is that new knowledge of the game they have a hard time with and the speed of the game.
high school seniors (much less underclassman), no matter their talent level, have NO concept of the speed and physicality of the D1 game....the sophistication of offenses and defenses as well as game preparation including indepth, professional scouting reports would make fools out of most high school coaches...sure Simon has many talented kids...many of whom will play at a level well above NIU...but they are still boys and the NIU men would have their way with them, even in this, a down year.
Honestly, I think this game would be closer than we would all like to believe. I would even go so far as to say that NIU would probably lose. The truth is, a majority of the niu team has only couple a months of experience in the college game so its not like NIU blows them out of the water when it comes to experience. Just look at the players on Simeons roster. 7 of them are in top 100 in the nation for thier position and class (6 in top 50). considering most teams only go about 8 deep, depth is not really an issue either. On top of it all, Jabari Parker would be a top 3-5 pick in the draft if he could enter out of high school. He would be, easily, the best player on the NIU team today. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the NIU team I have been to every home game this season and think they are better than the record indicates. Northern also lost to carthage. If they could lose to an AVERAGE D3 team, I think its safe to say it is very possible they could lose to the #1 high school team in the nation.
People keep bringing up that Carthage "game". It was an EXHIBITION. The first and only one of the year and for MM. We had a couple guys injured and not playing, they were trying different things with different combinations, etc. It was like a practice for NIU. Carthage treated it more like a game since they already knew their players and rotations, players knew each other, etc. And, it was a big deal for them. That game meant nothing or MM would have treated it differently. He got more out of it treating it like a practice to get a look at different things. No way NIU loses to a Carthage type team in a real game, especially now that they have actually been together for a while.
How many D-I's have you heard losing an exhibition game to a lower level team in recent years? Syracuse and Michigan State come to mind right away. Butler too I think this year. That's because they don't treat it as a real game. It's ok.

There's no doubt that people would want Simeon's talent 5 years from now, but I've seen lots of stud high school basketball teams (particularly from the public league) that don't even win the state title. They wouldn't beat a D1 college team, even a less-than-spectacular one.
Observing the officiating would be of interest in this hypothetical dialogue.

Four quarters or two halves of how many minutes?

Do officials let em play d1 ball?

the 3pt arc is one foot closer in HS than college.

I doubt HS refs would permit MM to get away with some of the things he can in college.....like stepping onto court often during play...and holding onto the bball extending coaching opportunity...

HUSKIES win if game is played by college rules officiated by college refs.

Huskies -58
Simeon
Tonight on espn there are high school games on. Watch how slow they are and watch the ball movement. NO HIGH SCHOOL TEAM CAN MATCH UP WITH A D1 program.

So how do you think Barksdale would match up against NIU basketball team. Would he stay on the court or would he leave.

Oh, I think if he played for NIU, he would definitely stay on the court. But, at halftime, he would transfer to the other team.

Barksdale vs. the hurricane. Who wins?

Tough call. But, if Harnish stops by to assist, it's no contest.
NIU rout? Notta chance.

This day and age, way too much stock is placed on the jump from prep to college. The certain few (and Simeon has them) will make the jump in one year and star in college and play for teams NIU players cannot. Jabari Parker would be a lottery this year.

This NIU team ('much better than their records indicates'...oh really?!...Better than who?) does generate some hope for the future but at present, they are candidates for a loss versus anyone. Exhibition or not, pleeeassee...they lost to a D-3 school and they recently lost to UIC, which is down there as one of the worst in the country...just not THE worst.

Simeon kids play at a national level year round and probably have already laced up against stiffer competition than we provide.\

I don't know what a few months of this magical transformation have done for our freshman, but I do know that our freshman get mucho playing time and they may not start for Simeon.

When Greg Oden and Michael Conley played for Lawrence North a few years ago (and before Oden turned into an injury project)...I'd bet them too against this team. I saw them play and I've seen us play.

Yep, it was stupid to bring up, but I got really pukey watching us.
