I watched it happen. It wasn't pretty for either side. But Yancey Gates ended up looking like a thug. How many players end up getting suspended for their part in the brawl, and for how long?
Both sides had too many starters in at end, particularly XU. Too much jawing on both sides, before, during and after. No excuse for what Gates and others did. Both sides deserve suspensions.

Just a mess.
Yeah, now that's a rivalry! I expect nothing less from USF/UCF games.
Both the A10 and BEast are going to look into this. They just announced it on ESPiN. I don't know what's going to end up happening. But it sounds like the hammer is going to be pulled off the shelf for a few players...
Every year Xavier baits UC into this and the Bearcats are stupid enought to fall for it like ever season. The series has a history of this but today was going to happen sooner rather later.

I say end the series.
Didn't Xavier start the fight??? Are they blaming Cincy?
Whow, pretty nasty fight. Gates was ready to throw down even took a few swings. First the Chinese now the Muskateers. Im thinking the next BE brawl ill involve an animal-perhaps a cougar..

At a minimum, anyone who threw a punch is gone. From the highlighted video, Gates is gone for the road game at Wright St. at a minimum. Xavier would lose anyone for their home game vs. Oral Roberts next Sunday.

Xavier did start it by jawing. But Gates deserves all blame for throwing down. No need for that.

Anyone know if the NCAA has a "leaving the bench" rule like the NBA? In the NBA, anyone leaving the bench during an altercation is subject to suspension.
matt, it sounds to me like it's going to be longer than a single game suspension. Cronin is highly p!ssed about this, and both conferences took immediate notice as well. That doesn't bode well for those that were throwing punches...
What is the NCAA rule when one of your players is thrown into your own bench?

Watch the video the Xavier player throws the UC player to the ground, and goes after him. When he does UC comes off the bench. Somewhere in the melee a Xavier player gets kicked in the head and busted open by what looks like Gates. Cronin is saying guys will be kicked off the team for good. He is meeting with the AD and president later on.
Every effing year Holloway and Lyons talk junk all game long and UC's freshman allowed it to get out of hand. Simply embarrassing.
Last year's game was a blowout in favor of UC. Everytime XU would drive the lane in the 2nd half they would throw elbows. I can't remember any brawls, but this one was 10 years at least in the making. Not saying it is right, but the rivalry has been boiling over for years.

Holloway stepped in front when Cash was shooting free throws last year and was talking junk. The guy is a punk, that doesn't mean UC isn't guilty but Tu Holloway would be kicked off the team for multiple things he's done in the past on probably 70% of DI schools.
The entire Cincy team left their bench. The ENTIRE team. How can they not give them all suspensions?

And the other 30% would be happy to take the services of an all-american including many schools in your own conference.
The Xavier player started the brawl by shoving the UC player to the ground. He should get the same punishment that Gates gets.

Here's Cronin's post game press conference. Starting at the 3:30 mark he addresses the brawl. Very angry, but very measured in his remarks. Expressed great embarrassment about what happened.

You also get the feeling that the officials didn't maintain a lot of control early in the game. I don't like it when officials take control of a game for physical, but legal play, but in the case of jawing and trash-talking, the officials need to be on top of that.
