We won't be announcing a coach until at least Monday, December 19th.

Akron's coaching search will take about three times as long as anyone else in the country. This is because our fan base is fixated on bringing in a D-II coach from a failed previous coaching staff. They don't want to look for the best candidate. There was a huge amount of repulsion when Narduzzi's name was brought up, same with Stanford assistant Brian Polian. I would take either of them ahead of Paul Winters.

because he is and was the best choice for the job no one else has had as much success as paul as the oc at akron if im not mistaken we were 9th nationally in yards per one year under his direction as is the only canidate on the list with head coaching experience not his fault the defense didnt stop anyone the last couple of years
I thought Kent should look at Paul Winter last year based on the fact he turned around a horrible program and is tied in regionally. His continued success at Wayne State makes me think that he could be a fine MAC coach.
Since friends do not let friends go to Akron U, I sure would not hire a coach with zit connections to be our coach.
If Hazell works out, then we won't have to worry about Zips influence on Kent State.

I have to chuckle when MAC fans pine for a BCS co-ordinator for their next HC. There is a fairly short list of those who have worked out in the MAC. Especially, B1G guys. Not that it can't work, just that it often doesn't work out.

Good luck to your AD, Akron. He can't afford to hire another bust.

It would be interesting to look at the coaches that were fired over the last decade to see where they came from.

Internal Assistant: Brian Knorr, Stan Parrish, Doug Martin, Shane Montgomery, Greg Brandon

Assistant: Ianello, Brookhart, Darnell, Owens, Hofher

Head Coach: None?

Clawson.
Could Scott Loeffler be a surprise choice?

http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop
This just in: Akron has not hired a coach yet.

Also, Loeffler would not be a good hire. He inherited a great running back in Bernard Pierce, and Temple's passing game was just not very good (ranked 117th out of 120).
I read Pat Narduzzi withdrew from the Akron coaching search. Is he expecting the Pitt job?

I'm confused-Are you saying Clawson is one of the BCS coordinators who has been successful in the MAC?

Uh why would our passing game be good when we throw like 8 times a game? We dont need to throw to win...

Yea lack of passing helped you win the MAC East, the MAC championship, and helped you beat those MAC teams with winning records....woops.

04-cheers
Got that Bowl W though :)

I believe folks in Detroit and Akron believe it will be Paul Winters.

This guy has immense respect within collegiate circles.

If he had immense respect, he wouldn't have fallen from being a D-I coordinator to coaching a crap D-II team in the pits of Detroit.

For Akron's sake, I hope he turns down the job.

Loeffler was a finalist for CMU's position a few years ago. Never heard of him until then. Apparently he had strong supporters behind him (not sure who). He has worked with QBs a lot, mostly pro-style though. At least that is what I remember.

I think the Wayne State guy has a lot of potential. After our current growing pains with a first time HC I would go for a guy with experience running a team and bring in a good recruiter to help out.

As for his work with Temple I can't fault him since he has no decent passing QB to work with there.

Well, if he can recruit kids to come to "pits of Detroit" and form a winning program, then there is a fighting chance that he could recruit kids to come to pits of Akron. Yes, I know it's a tougher sell, but maybe he likes a challenge.

I'm trying to jog my memory, but I believe the candidates for the EMU job 3 years ago were English, Fred Jackson, Scott Loeffler, (maybe) Corwin Brown, and maybe an assistant coach at Iowa (name?).

And we are happy you did. We like it when you guys blow out non-MAC teams.
To the Akron guy dissing Wayne State, just consider that they are in the same conference as Grand Valley State. The current head coach at Notre Dame was the GVS coach once upon a time.
