Chicago Tribune reports that Beckman is about to be offered the Illinois job.
He must've destroyed the tape of the last 2 minutes of the NIU game! :)
Quote:Beckman is 21-16 in three years at Toledo, including 14-2 in the Mid-American Conference over the last two seasons.

Those 2 MAC losses...NIU.

I wonder if he would be more eager or reluctant to schedule NIU if at Illinois.
You're title is a little mis leading. He hasn't even been offered yet.

Live in denial much?
Ah, the art of the question headline.

"Colts to move to LA?"
"Favre to Bears?"
"Labron to Knicks?"
"Tebow the future of QB's?"

The answer to the question is almost always "no" but they are good for generating wasted clicks.

The question mark was added to appease MidnightBlueGold (look at the first few replies).

I think this one has a really good chance to be a "yes" answer. 03-shhhh :secret:
Chicago Sun-Times also reporting it now.

This thing sure sounds like a real possibility.

Since there is no mention of Doeren, the best part of the article is..."Beyond Sumlin, Cincinnati coach Butch Jones reportedly turned down the Illinois job. And a source said others also were said no."

So 3+ people have turned down the Illinois HC job and they are going to settle for a guy that lost to NIU the past 2 years.
Do you really think they would hire a guy who lost to Kansas and CMU in the same year? Losing to NIU the last two years isn't as bad.

Not surprising. The Illinois job is a terrible job.

Beckman would be better served to stay at Toledo until a better job is available. The only pro for UI over Toledo is the $.

With the changes in college football, the days of the miracle run (ala Northwestern a few years back) is gone. U of I is behind even Northwestern at this point and NU has some recruitment restrictions that U of I doesn't. It's a dead-end job and career suicide.

U of I needs to find an older type coach who is not looking to keep ascending the career ladder, a Frank Solich or Bill Snyder type. U of I needs to temper its expectations in the coaching search and football results.

UofI a terrible job?

Pfft. It's pretty sweet. Go 8-4 most years, w/ a 10-3 to offset 6-6, and you're golden there. Win 1-of-4 bowl games, and you'll be immortalized.

All while recruiting in the 5th most populous state, w/ only 2 other IA competitors?

Now I am so happy we lost those two games!

I think you're giving the Illinois administration too much credit.

Expectations there far outweigh the reality of their situation.
I hope Toledo fans are happy for him and wish him well. He's doing what he should do: looking out for his family and his future. If MAC schools want to keep their coaches, they have to pay. Period.

Fans will cry about wanting loyalty from coaches who have some success, but they have zero loyalty to coaches who don't win. Seems like loyalty is a one-way street.
Mark Stoops, I hope you're still interested.
I just heard on the radio that Fat Charlie just got offered the Kansas job. If he can get another HC job, maybe it is not only the Illinois AD who is having problems finding a replacement......

Giving up 128 in the process is.
Can some of you NIU fans please send Illiness some tape of the past 2 NIU games, along with FIU and Syracuse?

Guess they don't like the thin guys.

Did they get their list of candidates here?
