Sept. 23, 2002

Walnut Creek, Cal. - JACKSON, COOPER, JENSEN NAMED PAC-10 FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF WEEK

Tailback Steven Jackson of Oregon State, linebacker Marquis Cooper of Washington and placekicker Mark Jensen of California have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.

Jackson, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., keyed Oregon State's offense in the Beavers 59-19 win against Fresno State. Jackson rushed 25 times for 227 yards (9.1-yard average) with two touchdown runs. Included was a 75-yard scoring run. Jackson's 227 yards marked the fifth-best rushing performance in OSU history. The Beaver offense piled up 286 yards rushing and 510 yards total offense.

Cooper, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., led the Washington defense in a 38-7 win against Wyoming. Cooper had seven tackles, six solos, including four tackles for loss (-28 yards), two of which were quarterback sacks (-21 yards). The Husky defense limited Wyoming to 86 yards rushing, 255 yards total offense and recorded eight quarterback sacks for minus-52 yards.

Jensen, a senior from Pleasant Grove, Utah, set a California single-game record for most field goals in a game as he booted five in the Golden Bears 23-21 loss to Air Force. Jensen connected on three-pointers from 42, 31, 37, 44 and 29 yards. The five field goals is one short of the Pac-10 single-game record.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterbacks Cody Pickett of Washington and Cory Paus of UCLA, and running backs Onterrio Smith of Oregon, Jermaine Green of Washington State and Clarence Farmer of Arizona. Also nominated on defense were linebackers Richard Seigler of Oregon State, Lance Briggs of Arizona, Kevin Mitchell of Oregon and Marcus Reese of UCLA, and safety Erik Coleman of Washington State. Return specialist Terrell Roberts of Oregon State and punter Nate Fikse of UCLA were nominated for special teams play.
