I really hope we don't get stuck being grouped in the west division since the travel would suck and I think all the best football teams would then be in the West (You figure U of L will be in the west as well with UCF going to the East).

I just hope that this junk is finally coming to reality so that we can prepare for next season. If they are starting in 2013, I think the Big East should let Pitt, Cuse and WVU leave a year early for a little extra cash and let them out when the new teams are in.
I wonder why Southern Miss hasn't been considered. I know they're a hot name right now after the big win over the weeekend but they've been a nice program for a while.

They have been a top of the conference main stay in CUSA, the media market is probably what holds them back.

USM hasn't had a losing season since 1993 and has only had 4 losing seasons since 1980. 18 straight consecutive winning seasons is a heck of an accomplishment. They are 548–371–27 (.594) all time and have more bowl appearances (18) than Louisville (16), Cincinnati (13), or South Florida (6). USM has a solid football program that has had sustained success and they've been one of the best programs in C-USA. The problem is that that success hasn't been high enough (i.e. TCU or Boise State level) to compensate for the program's other weaknesses.

#1. USM is a regional university located in a poor, low population state. Making matters worse, the state of Mississippi already has two "state schools" that play in the SEC pushing USM to the third most popular sports team. A low state population, a lack of major media markets, and being the third most popular option in the state are not a good combination for a conference hoping to improve its TV contract.

#2. USM's facilities are bottom barrel and the athletic department isn't generating much in terms of revenue. Their athletic budget is near the bottom of C-USA and is nowhere close to Big East level. USM doesn't have an indoor practice facility for either major sport and many of their other facilities are sub-par. For example, here is a picture of their soccer and track stadium:

(it is 2011 and this field isn't even lighted)

USM fields a solid football program and has a great tradition. But given all the downsides (poor regional university with no TV market, no statewide following, 3rd most popular university in a small, poor state, sub par facilities, athletic funding issues), I think the only way they'd get on the conference's radar is if they had a Boise St/TCU type run (a decade of high finishes, rankings, BCS bowls, etc).

You been to Hattiesburg? I have. One time was plenty for all of us.

Well the Bengals don't have an indoor practice facility and they're in the NFL (sort of).

That puts us at 10 teams, 2 spots left to get to 12, and have a championship game. I'm very happy Navy and Air Force were not involved in this. I would add Memphis in all sports, good for basketball, pretty good media city, and good recruiting area in TN (which UC is already tapping into). The other spot could be Temple, Navy, Air Force, or BYU. BYU looks to be out cause of the tv deal. Air Force is the only other western team to keep uc and ul out of the west(I have Memphis in the west). Dont like Navy, would be ok with AF cause of the west or Temple

Brian Cleary on Hattiesburg: "Once you get there, it's nice. We've actually flown there and had parents who drove and beat us there."

Huggins: "What can you do in Hattiesburg you can't do in New York?" he asked, repeating a question. "Fish."

Minter on the same question as Huggs: "We might not be able to get pecan pie in New York."

I've been to Hattiesburg and Camp Shelby, it's an outdoorsman's paradise so I would have thought that right up your alley Rath... I enjoyed my time there but it's not Beale Street or Nawlins'; the Mahogany Bar was nice.
