Not a good day for the MAC in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.

The conference is one and done, with all four teams losing in the first round.

I know we all lick to b*tch and moan about MAC teams not getting a fair shake in [fill in the sport], but performances like this merely support the status quo. I love the MAC and want to see its teams get more exposure and all, but this sort of thing is tough to see.
Doesn't change the fact that all three at-large MAC teams deserved to be there.
Not arguing that at all. I'm thrilled to see more than one MAC team in the tourney. Just wish we could have seen one win out of the group.
I agree.

NIU had a chance to tie it at 2 sets apiece, but lost the 4th set 26-24 to Miami.
They were all underdogs. Deserved to be there, but all were on the lower end of the seeding, and deservedly so. Not really a poor showing, just what was supposed to happen
MAC teams beat up on everyone during the regular season, EXCEPT for the top teams. They were good enough to earn berths in the tourney; unfortunately they couldn't get past the first round.

What status quo? Top 10 conference and 4 bids? They earned and deserved their bids through their seasons. Losing in the first round doesn't change that.

Of course it doesn't.

But it DOES make it easier for a future selection committee to say, "well, sure, they have a nice record. But it's the MAC, and we all know what that means ..."

Um... do you know what it means? Because what you're saying doesn't fit the profile of the conference. Two Sweet 16 teams in the last 6 years. Multiple bids three of the last four years. This is the first time the conference hasn't recorded a win in the tournament since 2007.

So, really, they look at the MAC and see a quality conference.

Um ... on the other hand, these results could certainly have an impact on the perception moving forward. Perhaps the fourth team doesn't get the bid next year.

Bottom line is, one win would have been nice for the conference.
It's unlikely. The selection committee follows RPI pretty closely.

Point is, the conference is good enough we can take one on the chin and be OK.
