Ohio’s new license plate: What do you think?
Gov. John Kasich today unveiled Ohio’s new license plate, which was designed by a student at the Columbus College of Art and Design.
The news release notes that it will be harder to counterfeit, with additional “security features, markings, and other federal requirements making it harder to illegally counterfeit.” The last plate redesign was in 2009, when the ‘Beautiful Ohio’ plate debuted; it became the state’s default plate in June, 2010.
“The new licenses and identification cards will be distinctly different in design from the traditional license,” said Mike Rankin, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Registrar.
Driver licenses will be released in January of 2013 and the new plates will be available December 2012.
Next: You can pick the slogan that will appear on the plates. Some odd choices on the list: “Ohio Burgee;” ”Glacier Grooves,” and “40,948 square miles,” for example.
Here’s what it looks like:
What do you think?
UPDATE, 7:30 p.m.
Robert Grove, a Columbia Twp. resident with 40 years of graphic design experience, suggested this tweaked version. He would add a red triangle at the bottom, mirroring the top one:
many of you know that i'm a license plate hobbyist. i currently have 58 different (mostly) plates hanging around my apartment. so believe me when i tell you that i know a thing or two about a thing or two regarding license plates. these new ones suck. better than the beautiful ohio plates, but not by much. too much noise in the background. if the triangles were blue, the background red, and the lettering/numbering white, that'd be sweet i think
