UTSA has had very informal discussions with CUSA commissioner Britton Banowsky and Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters in recent weeks.

While the latter didn’t sound like much more than an exercise to keep the lines of communication open — UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey declined comment, reiterating her school’s commitment to the WAC – it’s still interesting that one source described Waters as having reached out to the Roadrunners.

"Informal discussions" - "Hi there, if you have any openings please consider us. Hello, hello......geeze they hung up on us again ?"
With the Big East struggling to figure out a course of action it would be prudent to keep lines of communication open, especially if the rumors of several MWC teams leaving are true.
Isn't UTSA another start-up program? No offense, but we don't need anymore of those.
Does this mean the WAC is about to collapse?

Yes, they are. I've kept my eye on them simply due to the fact I live in S.A. They did about as well as I suspected; but played a couple schools much closer that I expected. They had a very good gameday experience going on, and averaged over 30,000. Yes, I know they had special deals for tickets (heck, most of us do as well); but they did much better overall that I expected. Their other programs are decent; and I don't think they would be a bottom dweller in the Belt.
If we can add South why not UTSA I would like to see us add teams with big markets so we can get more bowls in the future and a better tv deal. College football is all about money these days what you do on the field doesn't count as much. And it's not like the belt is going anywhere in it's current format...if anything we will have lost teams down the road.
I'm not sure anything will happen with UTSA given talking to the SBC commish is pretty much lame duck. I guess the schools would vote on their admission, if that were going to happen.

In order to get money, your conference better have a good product on the field. ESPN isn't going to shell out lots of money for crappy teams to be shown on their network. More winning also means a better conference rating, thus more BCS revenue.
I like the addition of UTSA. It would add a big market and be a step towards adding another bowl game. It also adds a rich area for recruiting. We need to be proactive to keep this conference moving forward.

which is why the new WAC will not be televised much.

You do know that South Alabama is a charter member (a founding school of) the Sun Belt Conference that didn't have football at the time the SBC decided to add it, right? If not, then I'm making an attempt at teaching you something today. You can add 2+2 can't you?

That is really impressive, but the key will to see how their attendance is in year 2,3, or 4 once the luster of being the "new" program wears off. If the belt gets a few programs taken by CUSA, UTSA wouldn't be a bad option as a replacement.

Haha. I think he got confused about the subject of that post.

I'd like to have UTSA come on board. I traveled to the USA-UTSA football game this season and came away impressed. Can't beat San Antonio, and the Riverwalk is all of a 10 minute walk to the dome. Tons to do, see, and eat around there.

And I was impressed by their football team at such an early stage. We went in there thinking that we were going to run over them, and in all rights, really should've lost that game.

Who cares how they got people out. They got them out. That's all that matters. And there wasn't really a huge drop off as the season went on.

People have got to get off this idea that the SunBelt is somehow better than it really is. Just because one aspect of an athletic program is fairly new does not mean that they wouldn't be able to contribute to the overall quality of the conference - whether that means tv $, attendance numbers, etc. UTSA should be one of the exceptions to the "no expansion team" rule.

Ha! Ha! Backatcha. No, I did'nt get confused, Bleed it Red or whomever. I just took an opportunity to do a little comparing the Jag's average to some of the bottom-rung Texas teams average attendance. As you were.

I keep reading "it doesn't matter how they got them there". What exactly are they doing to get ppl to the game?
