GODADDY.COM BOWL
Northern Illinois (MAC No. 1) vs. Arkansas State (Sun Belt No. 2)
Jan. 8, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Mobile, Ala.
Comment:
We’re projecting Northern Illinois to defeat Ohio in the Mid-American Conference championship game. The Huskies’ offense, led by QB Chandler Harnish, has surpassed the 40-point mark nine times this season. Arkansas State has accepted its first bowl bid since the 2005 New Orleans Bowl.

LITTLE CAESARS BOWL
Toledo (MAC No. 2) vs. Northwestern (Big Ten No. 8)
Dec. 27, 4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Detroit
Comment:
Christmas in Detroit? After a five-game losing streak at midseason, Northwestern is OK with that. The Wildcats must slow down Toledo’s scoring machine. It’s also not often that a team scores 60 points – and loses! But you can look it up. Northern Illinois 63, Toledo 60. The Rockets were so angered that they promptly beat Western Michigan 66-63.

FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL
Ohio (MAC No. 3) vs. Utah State (WAC)
Dec. 17, 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Boise, Idaho
Comment:
We think Ohio will fall short in the Mid-American Conference championship game, so that means a trip to the blue turf. The WAC got this slot filled when Utah State reached 6-6 after a victory against Nevada.

NEW ORLEANS BOWL
Louisiana-Lafayette (Sun Belt No. 1) vs. Temple (replacement for C-USA)
Dec. 17, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN
At New Orleans
Comment:
Conference USA can’t fill this slot, so let’s give a Bourbon Street trip to the Temple Owls of the Mid-American Conference. Two bowl bids in the past three seasons for Temple. Pretty heady stuff.

Dec. 17, 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Boise, Idaho
Comment:
It’s not often that one program gets TWO trips to Idaho in one season. Louisiana Tech traveled to Idaho and beat the Vandals. It’s also not often that a team scores 60 points – and loses! But you can look it up. Northern Illinois 63, Toledo 60. The Rockets were so angered that they promptly beat Western Michigan 66-63.
I hope those projections are true, minus NIU losing to Ohio and the MAC only getting four teams in. I would love to beat up on Northwestern. Their defense is probably worse than our's.

How do you figure?

Yards per game allowed
NU - 407
NIU - 421

Points per game allowed
NU - 27
NIU - 32

And they've played a much tougher schedule than us.
I actually agree with NBC projections for the MAC...I can't see Ball State or WMU getting a bid with several AQ options available at 6-6...I think the Sun Belt would fill spots with their additional teams before those teams get an invite...the only exception being if teams turn a bid down or there is some unknown secondary agreement (even then, I think secondary agreements are like handshake deals that could be modified at the drop of a hat)...
I suspect this has been pointed out a few times already, but if the MAC only has 4 teams (OU, NIU,UT,TU) bowling, my guess is that LCPB will be after Toledo again (assuming WMU is NOT in the mix), because even if it actually gets an Big10/whatever opponent this year for a change (which appears to be the case), NIU and OU will have just played at Ford Field and TU is a far piece down the road from Detroit.
Here are CBS's most recent bowl projections for the MAC:

5 MAC Teams Bowling

NIU vs Arkansas State in Mobile
OU vs Utah St in Boise
Temple vs Air Force in Albuquerque
WMU vs La-Lafayette in New Orleans
Toledo vs Northwestern in Detroit

That looks right to me.....

WMU would open up a can in NOLA.

-The Independence Bowl has the MWC #3 pick and will be eager to have Air Force over Wyoming and SDSU. A big reason why the MWC was able to sign the Independence Bowl was the idea that AFA would play in it if not in the top 2 picks of the MWC.

-Reps from the Pizza Bowl watched WMU play last weekend and that may be who they are targeting over anyone else.

-The SEC only has 9 eligible and will not be able to fill either the Liberty or BBVA. Out of the Liberty, BBVA and Beef O'Brady the Big East will play in 2 out of the 3 with the MAC taking the other slot.

Could we see the CUSA #2 vs. MAC #2 in the Liberty Bowl? That would project to be a rematch of the 2007 GMAC (Ohio vs. USM) game.

-New Mexico sounds like a perfect place for Ball State. A game against Wyoming is winnable for the Cardinals.
Ball State will not be bowling.

Co-sign...BSU will not be bowling barring unforseen circumstances...Toledo would be better for LCB in terms of location/matchup/attendance...can't wait til next week when all the speculation is put to rest!

The people on here are not looking at this right.

Its not so much about the total number of bowl eligibles vs. number of slots.

Its more about where the secondary agreements stand relative to the primaries filling them. A MAC backup agreement supersedes a BCS 6-6 team.

Last season WMU didn't get in at 6-6 because our secondary agreements didn't kick in as they would in a more typical season. Nothing was open for the MAC in the BBVA or Beef O'Brady. The MAC traded its opening in the New Mexico for the New Orleans Bowl. This year is shaping up differently because of the implosion in bowl eligibles in a number of conferences (CUSA, WAC, SEC).

It would appear that LCB believes Western Michigan to be more desirable than Toledo based on media reports and the fact that UT played there last season.

Western Kentucky is the last team out. The SBC only has backup agreements with the Independence and St. Pete. The Independence Bowl looks to be safely filled MWC #3-ACC #7. I think Florida International will fill in on the CUSA side in St. Pete, not sure what will happen on the Big East side.

You might try reading the source that article referenced. That writer doesn't read well himself. This is his evidence:

Quote:If Toledo, which is unlikely to want a return trip to the Motor City, is taken elsewhere, the WMU figures to have a decent chance at winding up in Detroit. The MAC probably needs to get four teams in bowl games to make that happen.

I read that the other day as well.

My opinion stands, the Pizza Bowl is not leaning Toledo at this time.

Ya well you also think Ball State is going to a bowl game.
