Cardinal Open 2002-03 Season At Mason Rudolph Collegiate Championship
Fourteen of the nation's best teams hit the links, September 23-24 in Franklin, Tenn.

Stanford Travels To Tennessee To Kick Off Fall Season: The Stanford women's golf team, will travel to Franklin, Tennessee for the 2002 Mason Rudolph Women's Collegiate Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University, September 23-24 at the Legends Club on the Iron Horse Course (par 72, 6,276 yardage).
Tournament Field: The 14-team field includes: Arizona, LSU, Ole Miss, Tulane, Missouri, Ohio State, Oregon State, North Carolina State, Stanford, Tennessee, Furman, Northwestern, UNC-Wilmington and Vanderbilt.
Format: The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 23 and 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a total of 54 holes.
Last Year: Stanford did not compete at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate Championship last year. The 2001 Team Champion was Ohio State (291-292-278--861) while the individual champion was Furman's Jennifer Perri (71-69-70--210).
Competing For The Cardinal: Head Coach Caroline O'Conner will be taking six golfers to the Mason Rudolph Collegiate: Kim Rowton, Angela Rho, Kim Kouwabunpat, Wendra Liang and Kelly Husted and Stephanie Lue. Lue will be competing as an individual for the Cardinal. Junior Marcia Wallis is currently competing with the Stanford soccer team.
Up Next: The Cardinal is next in action at the Edean Ihlangeldt Invitational, October 7-9 in Tacoma, Washington (host-Washington).
Coach O'Conner: Head coach Caroline O'Connor begins her eighth season at the helm of the Stanford women's golf program after leading the Cardinal to its best ever finish at the NCAA Championships in 1999-00 (second place). Under O'Connor's tutelage, Stanford has finished in the top 10 nationally seven of the last eight years and captured its first conference title in 1999. O'Connor is only the second coach in the 24 year history of the women's program. Last year, the Cardinal notched top 10 finishes in seven tournaments they participated in and had three top 5 finishes. Stanford has now competed in the national championships in 21 of its 24 years and placed 11th in 2002.
Preseason Polls: Stanford was ranked 15th in both the GolfWeek and GolfWorld preseason rankings. Seven Pac-10 schools were ranked by GolfWeek (No. 8 USC, No. 10 Arizona, No. 12 UCLA, No. 13 California, No. 14 Washington, No. 15 Stanford, No. 21 ASU) and seven were ranked by GolfWorld (No. 3 Arizona, No. 8 USC, No. 11 UCLA, No. 13 California, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 15 Stanford, No. 23 Washington). Auburn tops the GolfWeek poll while Duke is number one in the GolfWorld poll.
