Akron defeated SMU 3-2 to advance to the round of 16. I believe they will play Charlotte in the next round. The Zips looked good going up 3-0 but almost let SMU back into in the final minutes.
Actually, the Zips DID let SMU back in over the final minutes. (Or I should say, desperation set in for the Mustangs and they converted.) Can't believe Mattocks didn't beat the SMU goalie one-on-one with a couple of minutes to go.)
But, as the saying goes, "Survive and advance".

NIU did not fare so well in losing 3-0. I didn't think we'd have the offense to keep pace with Creighton.
For the second game in a row, the refs awarded the other team a PK on a phantom call.
We still don't know if we are home or away for the next round. I am surprised that the soccer committee doesnt have this predetermined. They are supposed to meet today to determine the home team.

Looks like the NCAA chose to let Charlotte host the next round. It should have been a home game for us.
Did the NCAA issue a statement justifying this decision? Actually, I think the Zips will turn the situation to their advantage.
