THE 2002-03 SEASON BEGINS: Stanford University begins its 112th season of men's collegiate tennis this week at the Icy Hot/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships at The Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 8-13 (Tuesday-Sunday) ... The Cardinal has three singles players and one doubles team entered in the prestigious event, which is the first of the ITA's three major championships along with the Omni National Indoors in November and the NCAA Individual Championships in May ... Stanford two-time All-Americans Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) have earned the top seeds in the 32-team doubles draw, which begins play on Thursday afternoon ... Lipsky and Martin, who reached the finals of the 2001 ITA All-American, advanced to the championship match of the NCAA Doubles Tournament last May in College Station, Texas ... Lipsky and Martin, who are both ranked among the top 35 players in the country, are also entered in the 64-player singles draw that begins on Thursday morning ... Martin is the eighth seed in the singles draw ... Lipsky and Martin will be joined in Chattanooga by freshman K.C. Corkery, who will compete in the singles qualifying draw on Tuesday and Wednesday ... Corkery must win two singles matches to reach the singles main draw.

PRESEASON RANKINGS: In the Omni Hotels Collegiate Team Rankings (released on September 9), Stanford has three singles players and two doubles teams in the top 35 ... In singles, seniors David Martin and Ryan Haviland (Sumter, SC), who both reached the NCAA Semifinals last May, are ranked No. 11 and No. 22, respectively ... Senior Scott Lipsky is close behind at No. 32 , while freshman K.C. Corkery is No. 93 ... In doubles, Lipsky and Martin enter the 2002-03 campaign at No. 2 (the same place they finished the 2001-02 season) ... Haviland and sophomore Sam Warburg (Sacramento, CA) are No. 33.

FOUR IN THE FALL: The Stanford men's tennis team will compete in four events in the fall, beginning with the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga ... Following the All-American, the Cardinal will take a two-week break before competing in the Omni Hotels Regional Championship on October 23-26 (Saturday-Tuesday) at Saint Mary's College in nearby Moraga ... The final tournament of the fall is the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championship on November 7-10 (Thursday-Sunday) in Dallas, Texas ... Stanford will conclude the fall with an exhibition dual match at Hawaii on Friday, November 29 at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
