I understand UofM has had maybe a half dozen transfers this season including Gregg Brown.

Rob Parker has tossed out the name QB Devin Gardner.

Any chances one will find his way to Ypsilanti?

Rob Parker is the least informed sports writer in Detroit. Believing him is not a wise thing to do. , Gardner is next in lineto start at UM so why would he transfer? Heck, he might even start next year. Robinson is such a poor passer that it might be best for DG to start and Robinson to switch to HB/WR in the '12 season.

Gardner is going nowhere. However, if he were I think it would be a CMU or a school that runs a spread. That is not EMU.

Understood on Gardner,

How about Brown or anyone else?

I doubt it any other will head to Ypsilanti. They are for the most RichRod recruits.

Kind of thought that.

Hoke could 'release' them to talk to EMU but do they have any interest?????
Better question, why would we have any interest? A bunch of stop gap U-M rejects is not the best way to build a program.

Rob Parker is bad. No doubt. I've heard that for years.

I kind of used Gardner as a lead in to my question.

I was really curious about the DB from Ohio, Gregg Brown, who said last (?) week he is transferring.
Dear Bob,
I totally concur with you.

While I agree in part, transfers can and do make an impact. For English, it makes sense. He wants to win and win now. He is in a hurry because he wants a big time job. Knowing this, it makes sense for him to pursue transfers if they have a shred of talent.

But for long term guys transfers are not to be depended upon. Yeah, you'll take the talented few who are available every so often because it makes winning easier. But for the most part coaches build by recruiting and developing high school players.

English is working to get out of EMU. I think that is obvious. The dependence on transfers--JUCO and other D1 schools--tells me that English is in hurry-up-and-win-so-I-can-get-a-BCS-job mode.

Dependence on transfers? We start 3 kids we got from JUCO and two transfers from other D1 schools, all on defense. As of right now we only have 1 JUCO transfer for 2012. I'd hardly call that depending on transfers.

You're probably right about wanting a BCS job, but he won't get any offers until that terrible overall record improves. I'm assuming the lower end BCS schools will shy away, at least until he consistently wins, so as to not have another Turner Gill situation, whom Kansas hired even though he only had 1 winning season in 4 years at Buffalo.
Ugh!

When a program has a terrible defense, JUCOs is the only answer. Period.

I'd have NO problems waking up and reading in the Detroit News or Free Press that Gregg Brown transferred to EMU (just like Murphy's 3 transfers in hoops).

I don't go crazy over PR, but UofM-related news does play big in MI.

I'd be happy to see a photograph of Lloyd Carr congratulating Coach English on getting a bowl bid. Plus on two counts.

wolverineeagle, Where have you been? You was around at the start of the season when we were talking about how the football season who go and you was pretty sure that we would not have a good season and then disappear. I miss your comments and digs sometime..

I tend to agree with you on this. I made the point awhile back that there is no such thing as a long term MAC coach anymore. You either win and get a BCS job or lose and get fired.
