1) Too many bad penalties throughout the game. Especially on Cudworth. I don't want to hear that we were aggressive blah blah blah

2) Coach English can't call to go for it on 4th down when you have the ball at midfield. That was foolish.

3) penalties again. How many times did our defense jump off sides or get a false start on offense? Penalties killed us!!!

4) We absolutely could not get any pass rush.Thier QB had too much time. When we did apply pressure we get a personal foul for roughing the QB. Did I mention the dum penalties????

5) We pin BSU on their 5 yd line and then have our corners playing man to man with no help over the top and BSU throws a 95last yd TD pass.

6) If we can't score a TD on 1st in goal from 1, we deserve to lose.

7) We dropped two interceptions thrown right to us.

8) Again no pressure on their QB and when we do we get dumdb personal fouls.

9) Now we lost recruiting battle to BSU

10) Give 1stu year BSU COACH LIMBO alot of credit for being bowl legible after 1you season
I agree with all of the above but the saddest part of the day was the announced attendance of 3288. Not sure what this team or the program needs to put fannies in the stands. The biggest game at Rynearson in a long time and 3288 in attendance. Sad!
Too many fans who sat home and watched the game on television rather than driving to Ypsi.
Yes, it was sad. Why aren't the students coming? However we must win these games. If we win consistently then fans will come consistently. After so many years of losing it will take awhile to rebuild fan base.
Unfortunately there was no reason to lose that game. For a program like EMU that was a game that had to be won espiecially against a coach in his 1st year. Inexcusable to lose that game for a 3rdbeer year coach.

One major reason is the apathy by several critical offices at EMU to promote EMU Football.

Another reason can be seen by the near dirth of EMU Employees/Faculty at the game. (Except those required to be there.)

I did not see a single professional staffer from EMU Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Extended Learning, Housing, Campus Life, Greek Life, LGBT, etc. There obviously may have been a few...about as few as the faculty I could recognize after my 20 years at EMU.

You can tell we've hit rock bottom when there aren't any transsexuals at the game.
Why doesn't EMU sell tickets for 1$... Try to get 10k in the stands. 10k in cash, + awareness of the program which will eventually keep people coming. EMU isn't that bad, and they have a nice stadium. Administration needs to give some incentives to watch a game there.

The Howard game was FREE on a sunday after the saturday postponement and we had fewer than 5,000. I believe there is a stigma associated with EMU sports. I can't explain it, with Univ of Michigan a stone's throw away, going to an EMU game is like admitting that you shop at K-Mart or something. The local yocals, many of whom cannot spell college, wouldn't be caught dead going to an EMU event. Even the beggars and derelicts are all decked out in maize and blue. Being in Ypsilanti is the problem. If we were situated in a more upwardly mobile town like Canton or Chelsea or Saline, things would be different.

I think all of the NCAA games on television kills attendance for schools like EMU. (It doesn't for schools like UofM where their game is the ONLY game they care).

Yesterday, it was possible for EMU fans to sit HOME and WATCH EMU and UofM and MSU by channel surfing.

That is hard to do at Rynearson. 03-shhhh

in '95 we didn't have all of the games on television and fans came out to watch an exciting team because it was come out or NOT see the game.

What is tough is mid-week MAC games. Fans can attend a game which ends say 10 - 11 p.m. (temps in the 30s?) or sit in a warm house and watch it on an ESPN channel.
That begs the question, did the television exposure help or hurt EMU? Also, who tuned in with MSU on Big10 Network and U-M on ESPN at the same time. I have to believe the ratings were very low. I would have preferred the game not be televised.

This may sound silly, but television probably helped most with potential recruits.

I'm sure the staff (e.g., recruiting coordinator) let every kid they have in their recruiting database, be they seniors or juniors, know that the game was on television.

This kind of game on 'over the air' television is probably more important to recruiting than many letters to recruits.

If I were a potential recruit I'd loved to have seen the game to get a really good view of how the team plays.
Dear luckeyone1,
I would have to disagree with some of your points. I was at the game and did not necessarily see every action a flag was thrown, but I really believe, that the referees could have kept their flags in their pockets on several of those calls, especially on Ball State's last drive. Let the players decide the game, not giving Ball State thirty yards of advancement, on two calls that were questionable at best. Also, you mean to tell me that on many of those pass rushes, there was no holding, on the part of the Ball State linemen? I just don't believe one team gets all the penalty calls, and the other is simon pure.
Personally, I don't think Eastern does gamble enough, I liked the fourth down call, It's one of those things that if you make it, it's a great call, if you don't, your a bum.
I would agree that we should have scored at the one. If we get the touchdown, we win the game, because Ball State would have had to score a touchdown to beat us, and I don't think they would have.
Ken, you bring up good counterpoints; however, at least three times our defense jumped off sides that were very blatant. Then we have Javonti Greene in the slot on 3rd and short and he starts the play two seconds early offsides again very blatant. I love Coach English, but he can't go for it on 4th down at midfield. The defense did not show up. I agree we were probably held by their offensive linemen but we did not get called for holding either. The refs were calling close late hits. The penalties led to their scoring drives or allowed them to sustain their drives. Part of being a very good team is to maintain your composure and we did not. This team has exceeded my expectations but if we want to be MAC champs next year that was a must win because it was right there on a silver platter. Alarmingly our 3rd year coach lost toand 1st year coach. BSU will use that to their advantage to get recruits that we go head to head with them. You see many of you think we lost just a game but my vision for EMU is much bigger: 1) A win would almost guarantee a bowl birth. 2) A bowl birth would have meant we win most MAC recruiting battles insuring longer term success. 3) A bowl birth would mean our football team is practicing in September and preparing us to win the 2012 MAC Championship. 4) Winning or playing in a bowl enhances even better recruiting.......and that my friend is the cycle of a successful program.

In my mind we have beaten one good team (WMU) and really we are only 3-4will (less 2 FCS wins). The MAC was young this year with many teams having coaches with 1-2 years experience but next year their programs will be more experienced and tougher. Coach had better get his players ready for Buffalo because they should have beaten NIU.
Oops I meant practicing in December not September.
It's 3.5k when they're on tv. Or 5k when they aren't. I bet more than 1.5 k watched it on tv. You already broke even with who is watching the game. Still 3.5 is much too low. Are their consequences with the NCAA for not having people attend games?

Yes but the ones that where there where GREAT! They really made a it sound like 10,000!

We lost because of two very terrible coaching calls! 1: field goal try the end of the first half that was blocked and almost run into the end zone"theirs"! 2: going for the sweep on 2nd down with inches to go for a touch down both BIG TIME momentum changers! Other than that both offense and defense played well enough to win inspite of everything else they did wrong. They where able to overcome the pentialies for the most part. And the offense was able to overcome the boched coverages.
one thing guys, that pitch sweep looked like a bad call because it failed.

If it had worked, it would have been a brilliant play.

When I re-watch the game I'll look if we've tried it before with very short distance to go.

It failed because it was the wrong call at the wrong time against the wrong team! Thier DB where faster than our blockers the whole game it hadn't a chance of succeding. You have to try and punch it in using all 4 downs and if you can't they will at least have 99 yards to go and you have a very good chance of getting a safety. Any play that scored would have looked BRILLIANT. The safest, the best and the one with highest probability of succeding was to punch it in behind your bigger stronger Oline or at least try going over the top!

The pitch was the wrong call, but we couldn't have run four plays. We had to kick the FG to take the lead.

By the way, the long FG attempt right before half didn't affect the outcome of the game.
