BSU/EMU - critical game for bowl eligibility.

Purdue / WI. Purdue needs two wins to be eligible. IF Purdue wins two, they go to Detroit?

Iowa (5-3) / UofM - Nice if B1G could get 9 bowl teams to ensure a team for Little Caesars.

Army/Navy/WAC are critical for the MAC. I believe ACC is also a backup for a bowl (D.C.):

N. Mex. St (3-5) @ Georgia. NMSU could be a step closer to elimination. WAC having trouble coming up with more than 3 bowl elig.

Troy/Navy (2-6). One more loss for Navy and the D.C. bowl is open depending if ACC can fill.

Army (3-5) / Air Force - Army is nearing elimination for the S.F bowl. I believe WAC has first dibs to fill.

UNC / NCSU. NCSU is 4-4 with two FCS wins. A loss to UNC would mean NCSU needs to win out.

*************
Syracuse (5-3)/UConn (3-5). UConn could be in trouble with a loss today.

Teams with 6 or 5 losses going into today's games 05-mafia05-mafia

Northwestern (5), Ore State (6), UNLV (5), Kansas (6), Maryland (6), Troy (5), Rice (6), Louisana-Monroe (6), San Jose State (5), Wash State (5), TN (5), Arizona (6), Fresno (5), and Utah State (5).

Also Duke (5) and MTSU (5). Adding Minnesota (6) and Marshall (off today) (5).
If the Kraft bowl has a open slot from either P12 or Army then an at-large ACC team would be likely the first choice.

Between the WAC and MAC I think the bowl would have to consider what would sell more tickets or be a better game/story to get bigger ratings on TV.
Iowa currently leading Michigan by 8. Not only would this make Iowa bowl eligible, but it would greatly decrease Michigan's chances of getting an at-large BCS berth.

BSU is eligible. Iowa is eligible.

And the B1G is eating itself up.

Lest I be wrong only two B1G teams have one loss and they have tough schedules.

PSU and Nebraska...

Matter of fact there are 2 B1G teams with only one loss as of 3:45 Nov 5.

On Nov. 12 BOTH play each other!!! and then go into the meat grinder.

Check out this schedule.

There probably will not be ONE B1G team with only ONE loss.

B1G may have a very difficult time getting two BCS bids. 03-shhhh
NC State's win means they now have a good shot at getting bowl eligible.

UConn's win over Syracuse leaves them at 4-5 and 5-4 respectively. It's now possible that both will be bowl eligible. It's also possible that neither will be.

Louisville is coming on strong, and their win over West Virginia today just about moves them into the lock column for bowl eligibility.

I just took a look at the Big East standings, and besides having no idea which teams will end up bowl eligible, I also have no idea which team will end up in their BCS bowl spot. (Though whoever it is will surely be crushed by whatever team they end up playing.)

Is it still possible that every single Big East team will get bowl eligible? That would certainly kill the MAC's hopes for getting many extra bowl bids.

Yep, some bad results for the MAC teams hoping for bids #4 or #5.

The Little Caesar's Bowl is looking more like a B1G team and that is a big positive for the bowl and whomever plays them.

There will likely be a second Big Ten team that will be eligible and be an attractive selection. However, the at-large field looks like it will be crowded. For 4 selections, you're going to have Alabama/LSU/Georgia/South Carolina, Boise State, Oregon/Stanford, Oklahoma/Oklahoma St, maybe Clemson/VA Tech/GA Tech, and maybe even Houston in the mix.

That's potentially 6 at-large berths right there without the Big Ten.
Northwestern is looking good against Nebraska. If they can pull off the win, they would just have to take care of Rice and Minnesota at home to guarantee a B10 team in Detroit
Ya, it's now looking VERY likely the Big Ten will fill Detroit with Northwestern and Iowa's wins today. Not only does it get them closer to bowl eligibility, but it gives the Big Ten's likelihood of a 2nd BCS team less likely.
i would think they would need penn st to win out and lose in the big ten title game in order for them to get 2 bcs bids
penn st is the worst 1 loss bcs team in the nation. i doubt they win out the reg season.

and for decency's sake, let's hope they go to the Gates of Hell Bowl

Very little chance Penn State gets to the Big Ten title game. They are bad and have the hardest part of their schedule coming up. I still think Wisconsin is the best team in the Big Ten by a wide margin.

01-wingedeagle they have 2 losses, define wide margin?

B1G sits with 8 Bowl Eligible teams at the moment.

NU did win so, as stated above, if NU can win HOME games against Rice and Minny, which they should be favored to win, there will be a B1G team in Detroit, very likely one of the Illinois teams, Northwestern or U of I. They should both be 6-6, with Illinois riding a 6-game losing streak.

Which team do you think will be the last kid standing on the playground?

Does Pizza get 1st choice or 2nd this year?
I think I'd rather play UI as far as chance to win the game, But for all other reason i think I'd want NW.

If the 6 game losing streak is the case, i think the Illini faithfull will be less than enthused to make the trip having lost 6 in a row plus already making the trip to Detroit 3 years ago
Not a great day for bowl opening for the MAC but it is at least becoming a little clearer now...

44 bowl eligible teams (with 3 MAC)

20 other teams 1 win away (Including 3 MAC) and it looks like all will likely get that win (with the possible exception of Iowa State who has some work to do)

20 other bubble teams (including three MAC) who need 2 more wins for the remaining 6 bowl spots (and 16 others hanging on mathematically) ....some of those will eliminate eachother in the coming weeks... The MAC needs 14 of these to not make it to fall to the wayside to maximise their bowl represenation....

Northwestern and Indiana have awful defenses. They'd be good teams to play. Illinois has a good defense, but i think Toledo or NIU could still put 30 on them.

Northwestern beating Nebraska is not an indication that NU is good. It's an indictment against the Big 10 since they clearly have no good teams this season but instead a bunch of average teams beating up on each other.
WMU scored 20 against Illinois. Seeing what WMU did to NIU's D... Toledo or NIU would be in the 60's against Illinois. Got to see how Toledo handels White, and Carder.

Indiana has 1 win I think.

If NIU went to Detroit and had to play one of the B1G IL teams I would rather play U of I at the neutral field.

I think NIU would light up both teams but both teams are capable of lighting up the NIU Defense. But the Illini have the more inconsistent offense and I could see them stopping themselves on at least a couple of drives, so I think that would be a 49/56 to 38 type of game in NIU's favor. Against Northwestern, I could see a Toledo or Kansas type of game. Plus, it would be more fun beating the Illini.
