Let's assume either Noland or Frank gets the job and he announces that football will be back at ETSU relatively soon. What is you take on the S-T being used as a football stadium?
Do it. Fill it up...expand. Then fill it up and expand again. I think we've been told that the soccer stadium cannot be used for football. I can't remember exactly why, so it could be a legitimate reason.
How bout we tear the f***king thing down and build a football stadium on top of its rotting corpse.

yeah, thats a good plan. take that to the new president. he/she will jump out of their shoes to help make it happen.....
I heard there was language put down when the stadium was built that it could never be used for football.

Not sure how those types of covenents hold up if the majority of the funding is actually from the student debt service (aka, state funding). There were stipulations at UNCC that there never be a football program and that's not been an issue for them.

Someone could actually request the documents regarding any "private" land/building deals. Freedom of Information. Might be interesting to know.

I don't want the soccer field personally, we have a have a place for the girls to play but football sure will look nice practicing on all those special practice fields that are out there. Stadium goes up on the hill behind the train tracks.
If there is language that prohibits it then whatever. Leave it be and build something else. It looks more appealing when you have separate facilities and less teams are sharing.

That is an interesting place for the new stadium! I never thought about that location. I have a couple of thoughts about the soccer stadium. The first is about the width. I have no idea what the width is for a soccer field but just from looking at it I would say to looks a lot wider than a football field. It would be marked off differently for football and it seems to me the fans/grandstands would necessarily be a long way from the field. Also the grass appears to a type of bent grass and I do not know how well it would hold up to heavy use by football cleats. Maybe the new type of synthetic turf would be better for ETSU as it would keep maintenance costs to a minimum. Just a couple thoughts I had.
No. The footprint is way too small for a football stadium. You'd need to expand seating sixfold (at least), add extra concessions and restroom facilities, and either replace or upgrade the scoreboard, and at that point, you're basically talking about rebuilding the stadium from the ground up. Not only that, it's further damage to an already strained relationship between ETSU and its alumni. I'd be willing to bet Rab Summers would think twice about donating to the school again after his last gift was tossed to the scrap heap after five years.

I've said this before. Build the football stadium on the intramural fields next to CPA, put the field house between there and Summers-Taylor, and build any additional facilities you might need around that. That's the best on-campus location other than the footprint of the Dome (it's arguably better because of all the nearby parking), which isn't going away until a new arena gets built, which would likely have to get the city involved to happen within the next six years.
Agreed. Wherever a potential football stadium is built, it needs to be established in an area where it's easily expandable and plenty of room for getting in and out of the stadium, amenities etc... Don't just cram it onto a plot of land. That's what got us in trouble with the dome.
I thought we were talking about using it as a TEMPORARY stadium until we can build one of our own.

I was joking

This is a great suggestion for the placement of the stadium. I think near the CPA would have the added advantage of being close to the proposed parking garage. Win/win. Agree that the Dome sight would be the best site but we all know that is not coming open within the next umpteen years.

Using Summers-Taylor even as a temporary solution would be on the table unless the field is not 120 yds (that can be fixed). I read somewhere that new soccer fields must be a minimum of 70 by 115 yds (NCAA rules).
I know that its not on campus, but could we not make an arrangement to play at the new Science Hill stadium while we build a nice 15-20K seat stadium on campus? It has field turf so have 2 games a weekend on it occasionally would not ruin the field. And other colleges share their fields with high schools. Just a thought.....if for only a couple of years?

Yes I have no problem with that while we get the on campus stadium built. We could add Fred J. Johnson, Stone Castle as home games also. Might be a good way to get the program fully re-started.
No, no no NO! No high school stadiums under any circumstances. I'd rather them use the dome for a year or two with new field turf down while something is being built before that is done.
No high schools under any circumstance. That's not the way to start this program back up. It just sets a dangerous tone and precedent.

Agreed it is not a first option. I was just assuming that we would not be allowed to play in the Dome. First option would be to get naming rights and build the stadium ASAP on campus.
do they make a rollable field turf? If so the dome is the answer while we build an on campus facility. May need to see if Northen Arizona's new turf rolls up, they have a dome too. With good sight lines.
It cab be removed in squares from what I understand, depending on whether it's Astro-Play, Field Turf or one of the other brands.
