So says this columnist from CBS sports. Announcement supposedly to be made in unity by this Friday. They expect AFA and Navy to come along, but still need a 12th and if BYU says no then Temple is the favorite to gain that last slot. (therefore MAC related).

Temple for all sports? cause someone has to blink either way
CUSA is gonna be hurting without those 3 teams.
If Boise and BYU were both to join, this would be a very legit AQ conference......even if BYU sez no and Temple takes their place, with AFA, Navy, Houston and Boise (along with remainders of current BE), I think they would defiinely keep their AQ status.
I think the reported 6 teams joining the current 5 to get to 11 signifies that the BE expects to lose one more (L'Ville), therefore leaving them at 10. BE would likely stay at 10, if this was the case. If the BE doesn't lose that additional member, I think it looks to add #12.

This is why there aren't many rumors currently about what team would be #12. The BE is waiting things out. Just my speculation.
Would Temple fans accept a football-only re-invite?
I wouldn't. If the BE invite would only be for football I would rather have Temple stay in the MAC. Maybe I'm craxy but I think UMass will work to build their program up, much like UConn. Of course it wil be harder but given the number of BCS teams MAC teams are playing, we need to start winning those and winning bowl games. I think the best in the MAC can compete.

Does anyone else think the Big East should change their name to Big E-USA. I mean outside of Bose State how is this new set up any better then the current C-USA.

It really isn't. It's a bunch of former CUSA members posing as BCS teams. That's the sad part of it all. I don't know why Navy, Air Force, or Boise St. would want any part in it.
If they decide to offer Temple, it'd be for all sports. The B-ball BE teams would demand they bring hoops.

Depends on what those schools do in regards to Nova. If they vote with Nova, Temple will never get an all-sports invite...

If they regain the AQ it is way better than C-USA. Temple would be stupid to turn that down...

I just don't know if I see it happening. Villanova still wants to move up in football. If they get their house in order (big if) they could end up moving up. Keep in mind that WVU and Pitt were to big NOs the first time around for VU football

Thats what I mean when I said someone has to blink.

Either Nova, or some of it's cohorts, have to decided that the situation is desperate enough to add a second school in the Philly Market -or- Temple has to take a football only invite.

If they really did just rape CUSA and get Boise then GOing there football only is a no brainer for most schools.

I think the big problem with Nova moving up in football is that all of their facilities are well below BCS standards, a lot like TU back in the 80s and 90s. So aside from finding a place to play to meet BCS standards, they need upgrade across the board. I think you're looking at like 5 years minimum to get to a 4 / 5 win team at the next level.

Problem with football only is that Villanova still wants to move up eventually too. I just don't know if I see this thing working out in Temple's favor. If you go football only...ECU becomes way more of a threat to Temple. However with all-sports, my guess is Villanova will push Memphis to keep Temple out of "their" basketball market...

Either way it will be tough for Temple...

Yea, but they are already in the BE and will probably be given another opportunity. Especially if the BE feels that they have solved the AQ problem...
I hope there are more Temple fans like those expressing their thoughts here.

If a BCS conference invites, I guess you have to take, but I'd like to see Temple stay.

I agree with the poster who said that UMass has a good chance to grow a good program similar to UConn. If Temple and UMass stay, I think that helps the MAC try to lure UDelaware.

That would basically be 3 East Coast flagship universities. Hell, if the BE does disintegrate maybe Rutgers is available and looking for a conference. That would 4 East Coast state flagship universities.

The Big East will have a new name and it will be the MAC.

I will +1 the argument for Temple to stay. Short of an invite to an AQ, why would an east coast team want to join CUSA and play teams from Alabama, Texas, and Mississippi. Depending on who CUSA reloads with (UTSA, WKU, Mid Tenn, FAU, ?) it seems the conference won't be nearly as strong as today which in the long run impacts tv contracts and bowls agreements. The MAC is starting to develop a nice eastern division which has a lot of potential. If the conference remains stable, I think over time the MAC will be better positioned than CUSA, Sun Belt, WAC, and maybe even MWC. Definitely brings them closer to the non-AQ pack.

Big East should change to C-USA, and C-USA should change to the Big South (or something like that).

A conference that stretches from Boise to Houston to Orlando to New England... yikes.
I agree...see no advantage to Temple joining what looks like the new C-USA. Far flung conference with no logical rivalries that is in complete disarray and I still could see a Memphis exit to the BE, and Memphis is the flagship for C-USA hoops. Of course, in that scenario I see Temple getting an all sports invite as well.
