Iowa lost to Minnesota making it very unlikely that the B1G will have 9 bowl eligible teams this year, unless Iowa or Purdue come up with an upset.

The Iowa/Purdue game will likely be for the #8 spot.

The Sun Belt is the Pizza Bowls alternate selection. That will likely mean that FIU will be returning to Detroit.

I pick them playing against EMU.
Oh well, this bowl game has made it this long without many crappy Big Ten teams showing their face in it.

I think before the season even begins there has to be an expectation that the Big Ten won't fill the spot. The Big Ten isn't good enough to be nine-deep.
right now B=10, doesn't get 2 BCs berths

See the other thread on why your math is off. LCB is Big Ten #8 selection. It will likely be contingent on whether the Big Ten gets two BCS bids.

I think that Temple would be picked as an at-large selection for a "bigger" bowl.

Ya I was off and thought they got the #9.

Iowa would get picked ahead of Illinois for a bowl game.

Iowa's fans travel much better tickets sold is all the bowl's care about.

SO if that leaves the pizza bowl to pick between Purdue and Illinois then Illinois would get the Pizza invite.

That would rule out WMU as the MAC opponent and would make NIU a more interesting pick.

Thoughts?
In the end, I don't think the Pizza Bowl will be picking when it comes to the B10..it appears that if there is a B10 team available at all, there will only be one. Either Iowa, Purdue or Illinois would be great for the game......I would think Purdue would bring the most fans, though, just due to location.
IF Iowa and Purdue both make it we're guaranteed a Pizza Bowl team, probably Purdue.

If one makes it and the other doesn't then we got a team (probably the 'least desirable' team) IF the Big Ten gets only one BCS bid.

There is a thread on the main MAC board discussing same.

Bottom line is that in the next month 1 loss BT teams will play other 1 loss BT teams and could cost the BT a 2nd BCS bid as they may not have 2 1-loss teams.
If Illinois or Iowa make it, I wouldn't mind UT making the LCPB again. Otherwise, if it is a non-Bc$ team, I'd rather have UT go to Mobile.
It should be EMU or WMU simply for butts in the seats. Both teams have large fan bases in the area and will travel well. At least WMU will EMU never travels to their own stadium much less away.

IF the B1G gets one BCS bid along with OSU and Iowa becoming bowl eligible then Illinois would be more likely to go to the Pizza bowl. The Iowa and OSU fans travel much better since the #6 game in Houston and #7 game in Dallas.

Purdue, if bowl eligible, would then be an at-large team.

How many EMU fans would go to the pizza bowl?

1K? 5K? 10K? 15K?

My crystal ball is very hazy.

Some might joke that on weekends more EMU students are closer to Ford Field than Rynearson.

For a Christmas week bowl, Ford Field would be great.

EMU has a very large alumni base in the Detroit area. I just don't know the numbers.

Would they come out???? Esp. for a Big Ten opponent?

(EMU played a couple games at Ford Field about 6 - 8 years ago. Crowds varied. One was over 10K for a team which only won a few games).
