I'm starting to get pretty excited about this ACC move. It's looking like things will be stabilizing soon, and I'm doubting Pitt and SU will be staying the whole 27 month in the BE. Assuming that the ACC keeps the current zipper and Pitt ends up in the Atlantic plus a permanent cross division rivalry with VT, it will set up for some very sweet FB schedules. If ND and Pitt can come together to ink a truly long term annual series - thinking 20 years or longer, that would make a typical Pitt schedule even sweeter!

An example of what to expect for future FB games

FCS/MAC/CUSA/Sunbelt
BCS/MAC/CUSA/Sunbelt
FSU
Wake
Clemson

Virginia (Coastal rotation)
VT (Coastal permanent rival)
NCSU
ND (permanent OOC BCS)
BC
Duke (Coastal rotation)
Maryland (annually in rivalry week slot)

Teams in bold would be our annual, permanent teams that would appear on our schedule.
2016/17

BCS/MAC/CUSA/Sunbelt
Penn State OOC game
FSU
Wake
Clemson
Virginia (Coastal rotation)
VT (Coastal permanent rival)
NCSU
ND (permanent OOC BCS)
BC
Duke (Coastal rotation)
Maryland (annually in rivalry week slot)

Haha, Pitt is going to feel like it's in a meat grinder until 2018... What if the schedule looks like this?

2016/17

BCS/MAC/CUSA/Sunbelt
Penn State (OOC BCS)
Florida State
Wake
Clemson
Georgia Tech (Coastal rotation)
Virginia Tech (Coastal permanent rival)
NC State
Notre Dame (permanent OOC BCS)
Boston College
Miami (Coastal rotation)
Maryland (annually in rivalry week slot)
Yikes... that would be insane
This, IMO, is why the ACC is a move that was all about football. I'm a FB first guy, so BE BB never had the same appeal that CFB does. Assuming Pitt and SU are added to the existing divisions, we need to get into the Atlantic. From what little we've seen posted earlier, I think VT would like to have Pitt for the annual cross-divisional rivalry. If Pitt ever gets to the point that it dedicates all 3 of its OOC games to cream puffs, it would have at least 3 very good to top notch schools in FSU, Clemson and VT on the schedule every year. If we can build a true rivalry with Maryland, I think Pitt FB fans will be extremely pleased with the outcome.

Yea no doubt. I'm a Football fan w/ 0 affiliation to the school. I wouldn't mind building a rivalry w/ Maryland because it feels like a natural fit. The Steelers and Ravens are rivals, and the same w/ the Pens and Caps. So there is no reason why one couldn't form between Pitt and Maryland. But I just hope it isn't forced on us like Cincinnati and Pitt was w/ some lame ass trophy.

Pitt's my alma mater, so I should technically be rah rah for all Pitt sports regardless. To an extent I am, but I have never attended a Pitt BB game (when I was on campus, the games were at Fitzgerald) while I was at the school. But I had season tickets every year for the Panthers when JM 2 was running the show! Football will always be my #1 sport and basketball is a distant second.

The Pitt/Cincy rivalry sucked because the schools were too different IMO. Pitt/Maryland, OTOH, are much more similar. The cultural fit is there, and I could see the rivalry becoming a fierce one - especially if both schools become solid to good in FB. I have no worries about a BB rivalry between Pitt and Maryland.
Miko,

I can't believe you never attended a BB game during your time at Pitt. Shame on you!: )

My time at the University was also during the Fitzgerald era (1995-2000; CAS & GSPIA), but how could you pass up, IIRC, $25 student season tickets for BB and the same for FB?!?!? I NEVER missed a game. Okay, I did miss a few OOC BB when I needed to study, but "c'mon, man!"

hahahahaha

Those were the days when I prayed that Pitt would go on a run at the end of the season, win one or two in the BE tournament, and hope they would squeak into the NIT. How things have changed...

Those sample schedules listed above are pretty awesome. Having ND and CCPS on the schedule every year would be incredible. I think CCPS 4-6 times a decade would be generous and believe 2-4 times per decade would be more realistic, especially now that Pitt will be in a big boy conference. Too bad the game isn't played more often. I remember when I worked for Senator Spector (not that he had any say but I was more in tune with national/state politics at the time) that there was proposed state legislation for a required annual Pitt-CCPS game, mainly for the tax receipts for hotel, etc. when the games were played in da Burgh.

In a nine game conference schedule, it may be difficult to keep both ND and CCPS on the schedule every year anyways. I'm sure the University will want to branch out geographically to get different schools on the schedule. I'm sure wvu will want to maintain the Brawl. I'm in agreement with you that I no longer see the Brawl in the same light as I used to - mainly due to their fan behavior. As I previously noted, I wouldn't be disappointed with dropping the Brawl going forward in the ACC. This year's game in Morgantown will make national news for fan-on-fan violence unfortunately.

Get the Lions on the schedule more often than a one-and-one and I'll be a happy guy.
I would like to keep the Brawl instead of ND. I don't think we'll be able to keep both.

If Pitt and ND link a long term annual series greater than 10 years in length, I think Pitt would let the BYB go. No inside info, JMO.
That very well could be true. I think it's really an either or situation and I could see the administration wanting to keep the ND series more than the Backyard Brawl. We'll have to see where it shakes out.

Like I said - personal preference for me is to keep WVU on the schedule in lieu of ND. I know there are a lot of people who feel the opposite on it. I guess we'll see where the administration lands on this sooner or later.
