A top flight QB

Defensive Linemen, especially JUCO's that can come in and play - the DL will be hard hit by graduation

Can also use some safeties or db's that can cover and a bigger WR that can make the tough catches

Good Luck
I think we are set at running back, offensive line and linebacker for next year. Our immediate needs are for defensive lineman and defensive backs. I believe our kickers are young and have a few years left. I've talked to a couple people around the program and none of them are sold on Benz or Iannotti as starting quarterbacks at this level. If we don't go out and get a high school quarterback who can help in two years after Gillette leaves we may want to look at the junior college ranks. The quaterback at GRCC is a player and EMU should be all over him.
I'm not as worried about DB as some.

I believe we have talent back there just waiting to get experience and play.

Couple of JUCO DLs are critical and a QB who has the ability to start most likely in '13. Maybe a JUCO OL for depth.

With the exception of DL (!) and maybe QB this program has been effectively been built with reasonable to very good depth at most other positions.

I'm almost shocked at the solid RBs who will return next season: Sherrer, Greene, White, Brumfield, Hill, etc.

This year isn't a 'one-year wonder' (I'm calling it a wonder even though we are 4 - 3 now).
Is Sherrer returning? Did he get a medical redshirt season? He is listed as a senior.

Sherrer is back (He may have trouble getting back in the lineup), no he is not doing the medical redshirt thing.. He is only a junior...

This is my Christmas List...

I'm not worried at all about DB's. We are good and deep at this position. I think some kids should play now. They are a talented group, they are waiting to get experience and play.

I would love to see 2 big WR with speed who can go across the middle, go up for the catch and stop causing problems, fighting..

We need a JUCO QB and about 3 DLs to start for us in 2012. losing Henderson and Big Wilbert Mitchell (caught stealing) hurt us as a team..

I believe we have reasonable good depth at other positions.
Need to get more players at every position. Ideally the 2012 class is not for the 2012 season. Recruit for the future.

Barring an injury, Gillett WILL be the starting QB in 2012. You can put that in ink and tattoo it. There is no way RE & co will bench a senior quarterback (which he will be) who's started every game since midway through his freshman year. It would take a Cam Newton/Tim Tebow quality player to move ahead of him, and even then I'm not sure RE would do it. The only debate at that position is who will be the starting QB in 2013.

I want a JUCO encase he get hurt, sick, suspended etc... I agree RE is committed to Gillett for this season and next..
WRs:

Is the 'problem' with WRs is that they don't get separation or they play NOT to get separation?

What I mean is that pass receivers try to get as far as possible from the DBs and LBs.

Do our WRS think 'block first and separate only if it looks like a probable pass play?

I think this is an important distinction in how an offense is run.

I don't think the Army WRs look for much separation.
As the offense is currently configured run first the offensive line built for running game not pass blocking etc, I can't see EMU as an attractive option for WRs.

However I do think our offense would attractive to a dual threat TE.

I believe our OC is playing with the hand he has, if we had a throwing QB, he would build his offensive game plan around that.. I hope he is open to a throwing QB because we made a offer to the HS kid from Cali.

To keep things going for us until we are stable on the DL we may need to find some stud JUCO kids to tie us over until we can build with HS recruits.. I too believe some of these many big bodies recruits we extended offers to may move over to the defensive side of the ball..

NuPudge makes an excellent point about Marshall/Henderson.

RE had a h.s. kid and a top notch JUCO and ended up empty handed.

Sometimes that is the way the cookie crumblies.

RE had good fortune at LB with the JUCOs but bad fortune with the DL.
