This is from Southern Miss Sports beat writer.... but take a look at where the info came from... think that might mean something? What say you, Coogs?

4:40 p.m. UPDATE – C-USA and the MWC are consolidating the 22 member football programs into one large association, according a press release handed out by the Houston athletic department (This info comes from Houston-based reporter John Royal)

Conference USA and Mountain West officials will hold a teleconference starting at 5:30 p.m. today to address the future of an alliance between the two leagues that's been under discussion for the last 14 months or so.

It's interesting that the two leagues are coming forward at this time to make an announcement. An alliance wasn't expected to be completed until the end of the year at the earliest.

C-USA and MWC officials likely had their hand forced on this matter when the Big East announced this week that it was planning to invite six new teams. SMU, Houston, UCF and ECU have all been mentioned as potential C-USA targets for the Big East.

We'll find out at 5:30 what the news is.

Well...
You implying that Houston is involved in the merger... and therefore not getting an invite to the Big East?
I have never heard of John Royal.
If the Houston press is going to receive press releases about CUSA it would logically come from our athletic department
An announcement of a merger will not change a decision by UH to join the Big East if an invitation comes. Just like Louisville and WVU we will be in our conference until/if/when another better option becomes available.
Nothing less. Nothing more.
