Quote:What's going on is the league made a deal with the Big East-bound Cardinals, allowing Louisville to keep its NCAA Tournament units in exchange for scheduling games against conference opponents.

So, Louisville quickly booked the series with new Conference USA member Marshall.

Apparently, that's not what C-USA had in mind, however. It appears the league didn't want Louisville to fulfill its obligation to play C-USA teams by scheduling Marshall or Central Florida. Conference USA wanted the Cardinals to play Memphis.

"That's exactly right," said Marcum emphatically.

Yet, C-USA denies any involvement.

"That's strictly between Louisville and Marshall," said Courtney Morrison-Archer, C-USA Director of Media Relations. "Conference USA had nothing to do with that contract."

Marcum doesn't agree.

"They're wrong," he said. "You can look at that paragraph (in the agreement) and it says nothing about the conference selecting who Louisville was to play."

As a result, Louisville is backing out of the agreement with C-USA.

"It is final," Morrison-Archer said. "Louisville has agreed to leave their units behind."

Nice that conference tried to strong arm UofL into a game and it backfired on them and has pissed off one of their new members. That is why it is C-DOA.
I think C-USA is afraid Marshall is getting too connected to the BEast. They just signed a deal with WVU and they had games scheduled with UofL. Other than ECU, Marshall and Central Florida, most of the New Conference USA is located in the mid south to west. I believe ECU and Marshall would jump ship at the drop of a hat...even if it wasn't to the BEast.
actually the article says that louisville isnt going to play anybody in cusa. so i dont understand how that is memphis' fault. yall will make more money playing 4 home games instead of traveling to ucf and marshall. i know it is fashionable to blame memphis for everything, including the fall of rome, and the challenger disaster, however, sometimes, on occasion, bad things happen and we are not responsible.
it's memphis' fault because they demanded that louisville play them if louisville was to play any c-usa teams. louisville feels like they have a tough enough sched without memphis so they aren't going to play memphis anytime soon. had c-usa and memphis backed off (read: stop trying to determine the schedule of a departing school) their demands, then maybe there is a slight possibility this never happens.

memphis has only themselves and c-usa to blame for the sorry situation they're in right now.
:) :) ....Good for Louisville....I know you are leaving some cash behind but at least you don't have the cloud of CUSA hanging over your future schedules...

Yeah, UL NOT playing a CUSA newbie is really killing us Memphis fans.
never mentioned the fans.

i said memphis. as in the administration and athletic department.

the fans may not give a damn, but after looking at your regular season attendance last year (only sellout of the year against louisville, the rest not even close), the athletic department should.

Somehow I doubt our ath. dept. is losing sleep over UL. We're still playing the
best team CUSA had. And that's Cincy.

does the article mention that memphis is the reason for yall backing out. it sounds like BB messed up again. its not necessarily our fault that the commisioner rode the short bus on the way to work. by the way, has anybody seen chris paul on espn the last few days? what happens if he get drafted by a team that the number 3 is already taken? does he have to get a new car? sorry, i was just curious. :wwf:
a) Am I missing something regarding the Chris Paul (WF grad) reference?

b) Louisville earned 5 NCAA tourny credits last year, and what, about 10-15 more over the previous 5 years? Which, if I'm not mistaken would equate to roughly $2.8M per year to the conference for the next few years, of which Louisville was slated to get the lion's share. That seems like a lot of money to be leaving on the table versus two road trips to Marshall over the next 4 years that appeared to be easy wins and likely TV games. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be a little surprised if Louisville indeed just walks away that much money if it's there for the taking.

Louisville is leaving 1.8 behind, that is all. We will make that up in Basketball home games and the football home games we gain alone.

What's so funny? We've always played a tougher OOC than UL.

Your past schedules are out there for all to see, so there's no need
for me to smack on your weak-****** sched. (Save the KY crap  )

ESPN will be all over Memphis. Who cares about the whipping boy?

That's it, I try to support Memphis for BE membership but after this. I hope they are never asked to be in the BE! 04-cheers
