Why not make another run at BYU for football only and maybe Houston(to get back into the Texas market). And with those additions you have a "National" schedule for Navy.
The problem with Houston will be they will want to be all sports members.

BYU would be doable because they already have their other sports in the WCC....plus we never play football on Sundays so it wouldn't matter.
Really ... I think we're a long way from "assuming Boise ... is true." Air Force is a more realistic possibility right now.

Paraphrasing as I did in the other Boise thread. 'A few Big East ADs are pushing for Boise State but no formal discussions have been had. Been told that the odds are slim to none."

With BYU recently burning the Big 12 bridge I am wondering.........BYU and Boise are really good friends. Hmm?
I don't see BYU. The Big 12 was a better fit for them and they turned it down. Air Force I agree makes a lot of sense though with Boise State.

I believe Thamel more than the Globe at this point. Interesting rumor none the less.

I tend to agree with your comment.
Thinking out loud, if AFA wants to join the BE, then it must mean a few things must be breaking in favor for the BE, namely:
  • Whether Mizzou is joining the SEC or not, the Big12 must be stopping at 10 teams.
  • The Big12 is likely taking one or two of BYU and Tulane
  • UL, WVU, RU and UCONN must have committed to rebuilding the BE

Why am I using AFA as my barometer and not Boise? Simple...Boise would sell its soul to get into a BCS conference in the worst way. So the BE probably has a guaranteed affirmative from Boise no matter how bad off the BE may be. AFA, on the other hand, appears to be much more guarded like Navy is. If AFA is warming up to the BE, then it must mean that the BE is finding some stability. I'm predicting that AFA and Navy will be joining the BE for FB only. I think UCF and ECU will be coming in for all sports. Therefore, the new BE will look like this:

Ten teams:
WVU
UL
RU
UCONN
USF
UC
UCF
ECU
AFA (FB only)
Navy (FB only)

The Boise noise is just that - noise. I do not expect the BE to invite Boise. I think TCU will be in their minds and they'll pass on Boise.

I'm not in agreement on #1 and 3... whether or not Mizzou leaves, the twosome (threesome?) of UL, WVU, Cincy are still NOT locks for rebuilding the BE and are still potential jumpees... Or do you remember what TCU AD said about "we are committed to the Big East invitation we received", and everyone who wants the BE to survive believed them hook, line, and sinker

Here's the thing I'm wondering about AFA... as stated per "reports", they turned down the big-12 fearing they couldn't compete? So basically, they're telling the other BE/B12 debatees.... You're acceptable, because we think we can beat you?

Not sure if i'd take that as a good message to "potential" fellow conference mates.. (again, consider me a "Jaded" person about whether or not the AFA is going all the way to the BE full time, even if it's just football only.)
A minor, but not insignificant reason for AF to begin "warming" to the BE: they must feel good about the likelihood of finding a home for their Olympic sports.

Minor because obviously it doesn't matter when it comes to money. Not insignificant because a different (weaker) home for their Olympic sports benefits their overall athletic department -- they'd have a much better chance to be competitive across the board in a weaker conference.
I think that this works:

Big East East

UConn
RU
USF
UCF (all sports)
UL/WVU (assumes one is gone to the B12 or SEC)
TU(fb only)/VU

Big East West

UC
SMU (all sports)
UH (all sports)
AFA (fb only)
BSU (fb only)
BYU (fb only)

12 fb members, 16 hoops members.
The B12 wants BYU. If they're going to give up independence, they'll choose the B12. They won't choose the Big East.
BYU and the Big 12 had issues with the rebroadcast rights, etc. If the B-12, who already has a third tier model in place can't deal with BYU-TV issues that are important to BYU, how is the Big East going to be able to deal with those?

Something like this actually makes sense. Frankly if BYU won't come I would look Tulane or Tulsa. They both might take a BB only invitation. Tulsa has a fiesty FB program and Tulane has a great venue/market.
Tulane has a great venue and market but no fanbase. Their games are like playing at a ghost town, unless LSU is there. Why would you want a school that almost shut down it's entire football program 5 years ago?

The only exception I can think of is if they are like ND and want to have an eastern presence if they pick a conference (sort of like how ND fans believe that they will join the ACC and not the Big-10). Kind of weak reasoning though I admit.

BYU and Boise are not really good friends and insinuating such is foolish and evidently driven by your own agenda. If BYU thinks so highly of Boise why did they bail on the MWC? Seems like they would be more than happy to replace Utah with their "good friend" Boise. But they wanted nothing to do with the Broncos so they bailed.
