The numbers say we can handle playing in the Big East!

1998 Louisville 52 Boston College 28
2000 Louisville 41 UConn 22
2003 Louisville 30 Syracuse @ Syracuse
2003 Louisville 21 Temple 12
2004 Miami 41 Louisville 38 @ Orange Bowl (ACC in 2004)
Anyone else remember the UL@WVU game in 1993...that was one of the best games I have ever seen....score was something like 33-30 West Virginia

Jackson
I was there and it was a great game, it poured the rain, however. And you all torn the goal post down!
What do you think guys? 04-cheers
In UConn's defense, we were a transitional 1AA team back in 2000, not that you won't be smacking us around again this year :D
WE will have to bring our "A" game or you will blister are butts! I know you are waiting to ambush! Good luck this year. 04-cheers

I would like to see how many losses that you had to these teams during the same span of years.

Keep in mind that playing a bcs schedule week in and week out is different than playing a bcs team a couple of times per year.

I still think that Louisville has the guns to win the BE this year and maybe even go undefeated, but it wont be a weekly landslide lkie in CUSA.

As of last year the Cards are ready to play in the BE and possibly win it. I dont think occasional wins dating back to 1997 is any indication that you guys would have done well in the BE back then in 1997.
The only loss is recorded in there big guy! :D

Louisville fans know that the Big East is not CUSA. If it was then we wouldn't be as excited as we are, but then again I think that alot of people forget that TCU, Memphis, Tulane, ECU, Cincy, Houston and especially Southern Miss have all had some good and bad years during the CUSA period of Louisvillle's history. USF beat us two years ago in Tampa in OT. We know that every game every year is not going to be like last year.

The level is going up but you are kidding yourself if you think that the New Big East is like entering the SEC East. It just isn't going to be that different of a level of competition then what we have faced. When you consider that Rutgers and UConn aren't going to be a huge step up from some of the mid to high CUSA teams of old like Southern Miss, TCU, and Memphis. We already played USF and Cincy in CUSA so right there are two games, we play UK a bottom feeder of the SEC every year, we schedule atleast one other BCS bottomfeeder (see UNC) then one other cupcake (see FAU and in the future Middle Tennessee) then one decent OCC team (see FSU, Miami, Oregon State). So out of those 6 games we are pretty likely to go 4-2 to 6-0 every year, same as in CUSA. Then you factor in the 6 teams from the New Big East schedule, Rutgers and UConn have potential but aren't at such a higher level of play then say Southern Miss or Memphis or TCU or some of the other CUSA teams have been on good years like when Tulane went undefeated or back when ECU had Miami's number. So really the only teams that we are adding that will likley be a jump in talent are WVU, Syracuse and Pitt. But we have beaten those teams or teams of that quality in the past, we will have teams like what we are used to in between those match ups most years, so I don't see the real shocking rise in SOS here gang! Yes we will be glad not to have games like Army or play teams that slip way down some years like Houston, Army, and Tulane are prone to do or like ECU has the last three years. Yes the Big East is tougher than say the MWC or the NCUSA, but honestly you can't say that the Big East last year was that much better than an old premerger CUSA schedule plus one or two tough OOC teams.

I don't think anyone is claiming that the Cards can't beat BE teams.

I think the point most of the 'old guard' fans are trying to make is that it is one thing to beat an average SU team sandwiched between a 4-8 Kentucky team and a 2-11 UTEP team but another thing to do it after having played WVU, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh the preceding three weeks.

Again, this isn't to say the Cards still couldn't win all of those games in a row, it's just that in the BE you'll be facing above .500 teams in consecutive weeks. The last time the Cards faced three teams which finished the season .500 or above consecutively (this should be an annual occurence in the BE, unlike the C-USA), was in 2003 when you played TCU, Memphis, and Houston in a row. I believe they lost 2 of those 3.

Cheers,
Neil

Noone here said that the BE is like playing in the SEC. Youd have to be a serious BE homer to say such nonsense. But It will be a step up compared to what you guys saw in CUSA.

Also, the BE last year was rated by every legitimate rating system, much higher than CUSA. CUSA was rated the 9th best conference last year. And that was with Louisville and Cincy there, the 2 best teams last year. So just imagine what it would be like without those 2 teams.
UC versus:

Sep. 27th, 1997 at Boston College 24 - 7 W
Nov. 3rd, 2001 Connecticut 45 - 28 W
Sep. 12th, 1998 Miami (FL) 12 - 38 L
Oct. 10th, 1998 at Syracuse 21 - 63 L
Sep. 9th, 2000 Syracuse 12 - 10 W
Sep. 18th, 2004 at Syracuse 7 - 19 L
Sep. 28th, 2002 at Temple 34 - 22 W
Sep. 20th, 2003 Temple 30 - 24 W
Sep. 16th, 1995 at Virginia Tech 16 - 0 W
Oct. 13th, 1990 at West Virginia 20 - 28 L
Sep. 14th, 2002 West Virginia 32 - 35 L
Sep. 13th, 2003 at West Virginia 15 - 13 W

Prior to 1990 UC was routinely crushed by WVU. The last 3 UC-WVU games have all been good ones. Hopefully that trend will continue this year.

There is no doubt that CUSA is weaker than it was before and I am not saying that I want to stay there. But the only reason that CUSA was rated below the Big East and Mountian West is because a few teams that are REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY bad are in CUSA, SOS and otherwise. What my point is, is that while the Big East is a welcome step up it is not really such a step that a team as talented as the Cards seem to have are going to have serious adjustment issues.

Look last year we played five teams(four regualr season and one in a bowl) that went to bowls, there were only 3 games that the other team was really in the game for, Miami who beat us by 3 in the Orange bowl due to a dropped INT, Boise State, and Memphis. Yet we played, North Carolina (ACC bowl team) and beat them 34-0, we played Cincy (CUSA Bowl team) and beat them 70-7 (Gino their QB was injured but still). So yes Louisville is not going to blow out good teams by great margins week in and out but last I checked you only have to score one more point than the other team and I think Louisville can do that!! And occasionally blow out a Cincy bowl bound team 70-7 just for kicks and giggles. :D 04-cheers
