We opened the game in a 3/3/5 with Jhony Faustin as the 3rd CB and Ward at CB. We have also moved Jason Meehan from LB to DE. JF had a nice game with 3T/4A =7 total T. Meehan lead the DL with 3T/3A=6 total tackles and he did not start. Meehan is a true freshman and Jhony is a transfer soph. who originally commited to Purdue before going the JC route. The D. is a work in progress, but we still have some time to get the best players on the field in their proper positions. A lot of the guys have been switched to new positions and the coaches have had a limited amount of time to evaluate. I am sure the LBs and DL are under review and they are tweaking the DBs. Keep the faith we will continue to improve the D. I think Tommy Lee Lewis can be a real weapon on KO and punt returns, WR and select running plays with his blazing speed.
I noticed Faustin and Lewis, but I didn't notice Meehan. Thanks for that. They were running the same defense they ran for the Army game.

They need to do something about Stone and Delegal too.
I've been wondering where Faustin has been. That seemed like a pickup designed to have immediate impact. He looked decent for his first real playing time. I hope he can be a contributor.

Lewis looked OK, but I guess I didn't see the amazing speed they were advertising. He must have some talent though if he's seeing snaps as a true freshman with the loaded WR corp we have.

I heard Meehan's name mentioned a couple times but didn't really see if he played well or not.
Didn't Lewis score both times he touched the ball on offense? That's just "okay?"

Hah.
Meahan played some DE against Wisconsin also.

03-lmfao .....just "okay"...To take the redshirt off TommyLee with our group of WRS means he is special.

I'm encouraged by the fact that Doeren is trying new personnel on defense. I noticed Meehan on a few plays late in the game. When your defense is giving up that many yards and so many points and not making any plays, you've got to find guys that can make plays. If they're younger they'll grow and improve and hopefully turn into playmakers.
Meehan had a few tackles at D end against Army, he has been at that position since the first week after camp. The only game he didnt play on D was KU, but in the second half on saturday he was definitely flying around the ball at DE...the announcers mentioned him on the All-Access Feed.

I was also impressed with Lewis and his immediate impact on them pulling his redshirt. Way to start off your career with a game like that. You have got to appreciate Doeren doing his best to get these young standouts some experience as freshmen.

Im excited to see how we start off conference play, this is where Doeren will prove himself, I think he is doing a great job despite the overdramatic criticisms the past few weeks.
I would like to see Meehan get some decent reps at one of the outside linebacker spots. I have not been impressed with bass or delegal. Faustin is supposed to be decent so we will see. I was very impressed with tommylee and he has some good speed he gets goin fast. I think he will insert him into daniels spot from last year. If you get two touches and put both of them in the endzone, holding or no holding, id say hes a playmaker.

Yeah I know! All of a sudden this feels like Gainesville where people are made if you when by 4 TDs instead of 6
MD...please get this.....its not the end score that is upsetting people here....Its HOW WE LOOK DOING IT! Our D keeps being run through like an unmanned tollbooth. This was a game where they could prove they had the ability to stop someone and we really didnt do that. Our starters were on the field nearly the whole game and we had problems stopping a 1aa offense!!!!!!! MAC offenses are better than CalPoly......(MAC defenses are better too). Through four games, the team we have fielded is nothing mroe than an average MAC team and THAT is unacceptable.
game started 27-0... nope, we didnt stop them at all

Yes...that was the start....but lets analyze the whole picture....
after the first 13 minutes we stopped 1aa Cal Poly....once. (they stopped themselves once by missing a short fg)

They had consecutive drives of 39, 85, 70, 63, 52 and then another 69 yard drive after our one stop. This is with our first string defense playing. Our defense either let up, or got owned after the first quarter....(and i do not know which is worse)
Meehan has been out there for a few games now. They told him he could stay at linebacker and redshirt or move to d-line and play right now and he chose the latter. They believe he can gain weight and remain fast.
Tommylee Lewis will be fun to watch. In fall camp he looked faster than Akeem Daniels.
HuskieWire agrees, great story here:

Just WIN!

If you are having to rely on freshmen, something's not right.
I wish them well, but I don't want to rely on them.
I hope this shows confidence in his future ability to recruit well.

With Ashford, Moore, Clark, Palmer, and Johnson, I don't need to see Wells, or Grady, or freshmen. It doesn't seem like a good use of a red shirt.
