Director Michael Moore urges boycott of Georgia over Troy Davis execution

Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore is calling for an economic boycott of Georgia over this week’s execution of Troy Anthony Davis.

“I encourage everyone I know to never travel to Georgia, never buy anything made in Georgia, [and] to never do business in Georgia,” Moore said on his website this week.

The Academy-Award winning filmmaker and best-selling author also called on his publisher to pull his memoir, “Here Comes Trouble,” from every Georgia bookstore.

If Grand Central Publishing doesn’t pull the 427-page book, Moore said he will “donate every dime of every royalty my book makes in Georgia to help defeat the racists and killers who run that state.” 03-lmfao

Brian Robinson, a spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal, found the filmmaker’s rant amusing.

“We think it’s cute that he thinks anyone in Georgia would buy his book, but if any Georgian does, I’m happy to double the royalties and buy a pack of gum for a charity of Michael Moore’s choice,” Robinson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A spokeswoman for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce said the group had no comment.

Davis, who maintained his innocence until the end, was executed late Wednesday at the state prison in Jackson. He was put to death for the 1989 murder of off-duty Savannah Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail, a father of two young children and a former Army Ranger.

After the execution, MacPhail's family said justice had been served after 20 years of waiting for the officer's killer to be punished for the fatal shooting.

Moore was among several figures in the entertainment industry who lashed out against the state for the execution.

“I ask all Americans with a conscience to shun anything and everything to do with the murderous state of Georgia,” the filmmaker said in his Thursday statement. 03-lmfao

I'm sure the impact of his "call" will be devestating for Georgia. The state my just fold.
Moore hasn't been in the news much. I doubt anyone really knew he published a memoir. He's looking for air time. Sick opportunist.
I agree with Moore. Let's stop Welfare payments to those racist Georgians.

The former Welfare Recipients will then try to break into my home and attempt to steal my property. I'll just have to shoot them.

B-b-b-b-but you just told me to not do business in Georgia.
I boycott Georgia by having no reason to ever go there. I guess I am part of the Michael Moore Revolution now.
Too bad he doesn't have a movie out. I've always wanted to join a boycott.

If Mr. Moore is truly going to boycott Georgia-based Businesses based upon the Court Ordered execution of Troy Davis, then I need to inform him that Georgia-Pacific Corporation (HQ in Atlanta) is the distributor and manufacturer of about 90% of the "Bathroom Tissue" used in the United States.

In other words,if Mr. Moore wants to honor his Boycott, I guess he needs to get used to wiping his butt with his hand.

i was joking doodie head.
The person who was executed was very likely innocent. I can understand the outrage. But tact has never been a liberal strong point.

It's death penalty cases like this one that have turned me against capital punishment UNLESS there's hard video evidence of you killing someone else.

Try 9. 7 of which have withdrawn their testimony.

One of the people who was a witness (Coles) was likely the killer.

Coles who is now dead? Coles and Davis were out that night. Both armed. Both assaulted a homeless man, leading to the intervention of a cop. Both fired at the cop. It does not matter WHO fired the fatal shot in the state of Georgia. If you're involved with a crime that ends with a law enforcement official being killed, the death penalty is on the table for the prosecution.

**** Davis. **** Cole.

Quote:On the evening of August 18, 1989, Davis briefly attended a pool party hosted by a friend in the Cloverdale neighborhood of Savannah, Georgia. As he left with his friend Darrell Collins, the occupants of a passing car yelled obscenities at them. A bullet was fired into the car[11] and Michael Cooper, a passenger in the other car, was shot in the face, allegedly by Davis.[12] Davis and Collins continued on, and later met Sylvester "Redd" Coles, who was arguing with a homeless man, Larry Young, over a beer near a Burger King restaurant in the nearby Yamacraw neighborhood.[11][13] Off-duty policeman Mark MacPhail was working as a security guard there and was shot when he attempted to intervene in the pistol-whipping of Young.[14]

You defend that piece of sh*t all you want. I'm glad he's dead and off the proverbial planetary plane. I happen to think he did kill McPhail and the jurors, 9 blacks and 7 whites, did as well.

Absolutely false, Davis was guilty as hell. The only reason Davis is getting the attention is he was a black man. If you are against the death penalty, when they executed the white Texas man for the dragging death of a black man, where is the demonstrations for his execution? Is mercy racial oriented? They both are guilty, f'em.
Oh, don't think I'm trying to say he's a good guy. I'm just saying for the SPECIFIC crime he received the death penalty for, his guilt was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. In fact, in the several cases I can recall where someone was exonerated from death row (mostly in the state of NC, as they are the only state with an office dedicated to exoneration), the person who was going to be executed had a criminal record, and usually an extensive one. But it tended to be smaller non-felony stuff.
