All sports members + AFA + Navy need to discuss a long term plan for a split from ND & the 7 Catholics. If Nova is lucky they make the cut in place of Temple. I believe this could make the conference viable for the future if they commit to each other until they can split.

All Sports Big East + Academies FB Only 14/12.
East: Rutgers, UConn, USF, UCF, ECU, Temple, Navy-FB
West: WVU, UC, UL, TCU, Memphis, Houston, AFA-FB

This brings in 2 solid basketball schools w/ football potential, 2 solid all around programs & new markets. I believe getting the academies in the BE could be the glue that keeps the BCS tag on the league. Nobody wants to screw with the US Govt.
Everyone needs to give it up on UCF/USF being in the same conference. This has officially turned into a Texas/TA&M situation between these two schools. It's over for UCF as far as the Big East is concerned as long as Genshaft remains in control of the conference. That's why there hasn't been one word out of Orlando during the past 6-9 months (other than the Sentinel's Bianchi continuous state of denial and rant articles).

As much as I would love to see ECU and UCF both get in the Big East, I have given up all hope of that ever happening. Therefore, it pains me to say it but I hope ECU stays with UCF in the C-USA. I certainly don't wish for ECU to be held back in any way, but ECU/UCF have the beginning of a rivalry forming, and for what it's worth that's an annual match-up I enjoy watching. But should ECU move on, then I suppose FIU has a shot at taking their place. Maybe then UCF/FIU will become that in-state rivalry UCF would like to establish. USF can form their rivalry with Rutgers.
I'm not sure if I agree. UCF might have gotten blocked this go around but if a split happens I'm not sure who else is available at that time that would be valuable. If UCF got blocked I think it was more than just USF. The problem is that UCF won't get any local gov't support due to UF & FSU. Lots of D1 schools in that state and lots of other schools out of state recruit there. Rutgers & WV recruit Florida also. Lots of off the field issues really hurt UCF this go around but in the future I still say UCF is the best add. UCF and Houston remind me a lot of each other in terms of "all-around" programs in large cities.
There's not going to be a split. The value in the Big East TV contract is actually in favor of the basketball schools and the markets they are in. Don't forget Notre Dame is also part of the basketball equation, and that's huge. As much as everyone hates the hybrid situation it's needed in order to maximize the TV dollars for this conference. Now that Pitt and Syracuse are gone, football needs basketball now more than ever. No way we ever see this conference split up*.

*Unless Louisville goes to the Big12, Uconn and Notre Dame go to the ACC, and WVU goes to the SEC. Then there's a split because football will be dead.
Other than Oliver Luck, who only talks to the media to amuse himself and because no one else seems interested in what he has to say, no one from the Big East has made me think there is any real threat of a split. If it were even remotely possible, Pitt and Syracuse wouldn't have abandoned ship.

I hate the hybrid also, but its not going anywhere so message board fans may as well stop talking about a split. And UCF is likely out. Which is utterly ridiculous. But I'm not sure the Big East is actually better than CUSA. Sucks that the Big East will keep its AQ, if only because Miami used to be in the conference.

Nobody really wants or needs a split. I for one can't wait to play the
hoop schools and the all sports schools in this league.
We'll hold up our end, I guarandamntee you.
WHAS11.com reports that Navy, Air Force, and ECU to BEast as soon as details are worked through. Kinda of a general article which did not really cite sources of the origin of the report.
AFA and Navy won't care if there is a split but they won't join all sports if split happens.

They're not interested in all-sports membership anyway.

Or at least Navy isn't. AF might be, but only because they'd need a home for sports other than football.

The football schools cannot split from ND & the 7 Catholics & maintain themselves as an FBS conference. They have to have at least one of that group come along with them to meet NCAA requirements as a continuing multi-sports conference.
