Time for a new thread.

I found this and thought it was interesting...

"Eastern Michigan comes to Beaver Stadium for what should be an absolutely terrible scrimmage-like atmosphere in Happy Valley. You thought the Indiana State game looked and felt like the Blue-White Game? You haven't seen anything yet."

That ought to get the green and white fired up!
Yeah well, Penn State fans may be in for a surprise. Unlike U-M, Penn State doesn't have a Denard Robinson type playmaker on their roster. Other than containing Robinson, Eastern did a nice job defensively against Michigan.

As for offense, if Karcher can dial up a few gadget plays that catch PSU off guard and if Gillett (on some well designed QB draws and sweeps) and Greene run the ball well behind that enormous OL, we may be able to hang in there. Memo to Garrett Hoskins and Kinsman Thomas: we need you to keep the Penn State 'D' honest. If the game is a low scoring affair, EMU has a chance. Not a great one, but a chance none the less...24-10.
Well Friends,
I agree with Bob, but would also think, that if, Temple had them 10-7, with minutes to go in the game, not that we are as good as Temple, but I think our defense has played well enough, that we could see a closer game, score wise than U-M.
I am getting a little concerned about scoring points, and would like to see our offense do more, if possible, in this game. We need to run some screens, reverses, and pass plays over the middle, to loosen up the running game

Ken,

I totally agree. I like Gillett's poise at QB but he is clearly lacking confidence in his passing right now. What is easier than a nice little screen pass to Greene or Sherrer? I say get him off early with those little flare passes to his RB. Get him some confidence and then work in Hoskins and KThomas.

We need not apologize for Gillett's running ability. He is a weapon, let him run when warranted. This offense is a work in progress but by no means is it a lost cause. I like its potential.
Ken,

You are the man!!!!!! You are now thinking like a OC who's want to help our QB situation. 04-bow

I think there are certain things we can do to help the EMU run game like:

Throwing a few short passes (8-12 yards)
Screen pass or Double screens
Reverses or double reverses
Throw the deep balls (a least 2-3 times)
Draw-play
We need to somehow get our WR's to make big runs after the catch

The main thing is for us

Come out this game healthy to start the MAC.. 04-cheers

Interesting. It appears the key for Eastern is stopping RB Silas Redd. That could be tough as it seems PSU's offensive line appears to be big and physical. This could be a fast game as both teams will be running the ball quite a bit, the clock is going to be running with few stoppages due to incomplete passes. I have a bad feeling that EMU may get worn down by Penn State's physical play.
Bleacherreport says that EMUs key is to limit Redd and force them to pass. Sounds like a reasonable plan. They obviously fail to realize that Sherrer didn't play at UM and is not likely to play at PSU (per Pudge). Typical report with very little real insight in to EMU personnel and strategy. Most of these guys make their analysis just by looking at box scores.
This is a bad matchup for Eastern. Penn State is being criticized for having a milquetoast offense. As a result I think that what we will see Saturday is a far more aggressive Penn State offense. They will willing to do so because they know Eastern's offense lacks an effective passing game and will not pose much of a problem for their defense. That means they can take more risks offensively.

The more I think about this game the more I believe that this is game is going to get ugly for EMU. Something like 45-7 or around that.

Disagree! Penn State does not have quick strike capability. When they do score, it will be of the long, sustained drive variety. The only way they put up 45 is if Eastern turns the ball over, repeatedly.

And PSU being more aggresive may result in turnovers for them. That would help EMU. Kinda hard to say how this one will play out.

Interesting that a lot of PSU people are thinking of EMU as a reincarnation of the Indiana State game they played in the opener. ISU is 1-AA and the last time I saw them EMU was smoking them in the 2008 opener. ISU is ranked much lower than EMU. ISU is not EMU but let the PSU folks think they are because that works to EMU's advantage.
