This from Louisville Courier-Journal. Not sure what it means but Rick Bozich from the same paper tweeted that Jurich and UofL President Ramsey left the meeting before it was over. Before USF President had even spoken. Many believe they are upset with the BIG East's efforts to keep the hybrid alive. If I was a betting man I would say UofL has joined UConn, Rutgers and WVU looking for a way out.

Thought this was interesting:

Marrinato says this:

“Our schools basically went around the table and pledged to each other that they are committed to move forward together,” he said. “The fact that all of our schools in less than 24 hours notice came here to New York to meet with us showed that they are committed to move forward together and they want to hear what we have to say in order to keep us together.”

Then some one there said this is what really happened:

However, one official in the Big East who requested anonymity was quoted by USA Today as saying that was not an accurate assessment of the sentiment in the room. The source said league members are committed to recruiting more schools but did not make any pledge to remaining in the Big East until it’s clear what it will look like.

Meeting Notes
I saw a similar article... I think those 4 schools should strong arm the other 3 into forming an all sports conference.
There's still the question if the B12 goes back to 12 or only 10. If 12, UL and WVU have to be at the top of the list. If Mizzou ends up in the SEC, then you figure at least UL gets an invite. If Mizzou stays is WVU back on the SEC table? So it would be tough to break away only to leave next year.
I'm sticking to my guns and saying the Big XII stops at 10. Texoma hated the championship game so why would they want to go back to that.
was OU for or against it? If they were against it too, then 10 it will be, if they were for it, does UT give them that?

I'm pretty sure Oklahoma was against it. It had to do with Oklahoma or Texas going undefeated and risking the chance of losing to a lessor opponent. If I'm no mistaken, there was a rumor in 06 or 07 that the Big XII south schools wanted to split for this very reason.
Then it will likely be 10. BYU and call it a day. BE could split and add Houston, ECU, UCF for 10. It brings in 4 more AQs

If Mizzou goes, then B12 will need 1 more Air Force maybe. If WVU goes to the SEC, then BE takes? Navy? would they join?

Even if the Big East loses WVU, I think they'll get the same deal as in 03. The league would have 6 schools. I'd add 4 to get to 10 and add 2 more later.

I could be wrong on my views on the Big XII. But until I see a report that they plan to go to 12 instead of the speculation, I'm going to stick to my guns.
I doubt the B12 goes to 12. OLK and TEX were happy to lose the champ game. If A&M is gone and the BE has already lost 2 schools, they don't need the 12. 3 new schools coming into the BCS fold adds security for all the leftover's, and security for the BE and B12. It is simply a matter of B12 working out their differences and making all of them equal's.
I agree, the B12 won't go to 12 cause Texoma doesn't want a playoff, and the strength of their programs protects them from the wrath of ESPN execs. Probably BYU joins the B12; if Mizzou goes to the SEC then expect TCU to be called. The BEast needs to get to 12 or more, building in for the absence of Pitt and Cuse, and probably TCU. The two strongest programs, ECU and UCF are available, and as I have said before, it's time to forgive old sins and bring back Temple. The BEast will have to rush to fill slots if Pitt, Cuse, and TCU are not available in the next few months. Of course, if the lawyers don't find a loophole it could be 27 months.
in other words "we will all stay in the Beast unless something better is offered"
If I was the Big East members I would not over think this. The writing is pretty much on the wall that Conferences will all be at 14 soon and then on to 16. Just add UCF, ECU and UH for an all sports Conference now and maybe even keep your hybrid for BB. In 2-3 years the Super Conferences will come calling for WVU, UL, Rutgers, UCONN etc.. I think UCF, UH and ECU bring better FB to the Big East then what just walked out the door if they are given access to AQ BCS recruits. In BB UH has a top 10 class this year, UCF is growing every year and even ECU with Coach Lebo is starting to make progress. Give Lebo the Big East label in addition to opening our new $15 million dollar practice facility and he will at bare minimum put a competitive BB team on the court for the Big East.
Big East/MWC football only merger is the only answer that would bring stability to the Big East, get the MWC an auto bid, and would give you enough members to withstand/prevent future defections.
BEast may try an end around and bring in Air Force and Navy. I doubt the Airmen leave Colorado and the MWC; Navy is better off indy, but they might consider. But, two won't do it. It's probably the same ol story in the BEast, procrastinate until forced.
If we stay in BE Jurich needs to be fired.
this conference continues to burn.

Now that the Pac-12 has made it clear that they are not interested in expansion, OU has no leverage.

Every one of the Big East football schools has been actively looking for a way out for at least a year. Pitt and 'Cuse were just the first ones to find an unlocked door. This is why the Big East "reloading" or even the concept of the football schools banding together to ride off into the sunset and make their fortunes is not realistic. It's also why it would be so incredibly stupid for any school to willingly jump into that snake pit right now (*cough* ECU, UCF *cough*) assuming they even could get the basketball schools to agree.

It's risky, but if I'm ECU, I think it's a risk I'm willing to take. At worst, you get leftover with a few of the current Big East/Big 12 schools, and end up in a similar place to where you are now. CUSA would be left in shambles, it's not like UCF and ECU wouldn't have a place to land.
Anyone who thinks Big East Football will be rebuilt is delusional

If the football group wants to get larger, it will have to leave the Big East. Any expansion is going to have to deal with geography. I don't see the folks at my school agreeing to a league that potentially leaves us 500+ miles from our nearest conference opponent, which is exactly what would happen if ND opts for the ACC & that conference adds Rutgers as #16. If UConn were to get the 16th spot in the ACC, Rutgers would be facing the same problem.

So, you could count on Temple being included in any all sports successor conference to the Big East if that happens. There would also be a hard look at the potential for any other schools from the Northeast, i.e. Navy & Army if either are interested.
