I was pretty disappointed overall with the talent. X Factor Australia was on a completely different level. Maybe it'll get better.

The cowboy episode was sort of funny for Modern Family but the other one was VERY funny

Agree completely. The Cowboy one didn't do much for me but the second one was hilarious. Easily our favorite show, and one that can be watched with the kids around.

I also watched 2 and a half men and 2 broke girls, I could not believe the filth. When the brown haired girl made the Va-jay-jay comment my jaw dropped. Sad thing is, the chemistry between her and the other girl was pretty good, but the writing just sucked. If you have to rely on sexual innuendo to be successful, you need new writing.

I'm screwed. I'll never have a hit show.
I don't watch reality, so I don't have an opinion the X Factor or Survivor (I think Whitney Duncan, cousin of Holly Bobo, is on it). I saw critics rip Revenge apart, but it seems like the girls on my twitter feed were head over heels for it.
The last decent reality show was #Mama's #Family. #pointplankn

Vinton is a straight up trip. #iolatho
If you arent watching FX these days then you are missing some of the best shows on TV. Louie, Wilfred, Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Sons of Anarchy, and Justified. All brilliant.

Justified especially. I saw the first season of Sunny, but it got lost on my list and I still haven't caught up with it. I hear Sons is awesome from my parents, but haven't seen any episodes.
Tonight's Thursday lineup was strong. An excellent The Office coming off of the departure of Carell. Spader will be a good addition. Community had a good opener and Parks gets better every episodes. If you aren't watching Parks and Community and you enjoy comedies you're missing out. Both started off slow for about 6 episodes or so, but both are just excellent now. Big Bang was also a good comeback. Enjoyed that they picked up where they left off. Jim Parsons is excellent. Watched the premiere of Whitney, but wasn't impressed. Maybe it can improve and I can go back to it, but I really have too many shows and Hell on Wheels and New Girl are my pickups this year.

Still waiting on premieres of Boardwalk, Walking Dead, Dexter, and Hell on Wheels.
Community is not very good. Parks is ok. The Office was good last night.
The only good tv is on HBO and it really gets rolling this Sunday with the premier of the second season of Boardwalk Empire.
Really disappointed with Community. Seems like the last few episodes have been created by guys on acid.

Whitney wasok, but it was weird for me to watch a show taped in front of a live audience. Been a while since I have seen one. Don't watch any CBS shows, and all of NBC's sitcoms (minus Whitney) are filmed without audiences. Weird to hear the (sometimes forced) laughter.

Don't forget Mad Men great show I'm catching up on with streaming Netflix

I wanted to like Community but it just isn't that funny and same for Parks and Recreation. I love The Office so Parks should work in theory. I'm waiting on Netflix to send the last season of The Office on disc. Can't wait.
The best half hour sitcom on TV......

You missed some of the funniest half hours on TV. After the first season, they picked up Danny DeVito and decided to get crazy with it. As a result seasons 2-5 were hilarious. Season 6 was a bit down mostly because Dee's character was pregnant and unable to be the foil, but they've come back strong so far this season.

How Charlie Day hasnt been nominated for an Emmy is beyond me.
Community and Parks are great to me. Best two shows on basic cable tv since FNL ended. Horrible first seasons overall, but I've loved almost every episode of them since and am glad I didn't quit on them, especially Parks.

Making Poehler's character not be a Michael Scott idiot (she was horrible at it) and giving Ron Swanson, Aziz Ansari, and Chris Pratt a lot of camera time (plus the additions of Adam Scott and Rob Lowe) have made it the funniest comedy on Thursday (no offense to Big Bang).

Community took a long time to figure itself out. The first paintball episode (Modern Warfare) is when it really got good. The episode where they played off of Pulp Fiction and My Dinner With Andre was so good. This premiere episode wasn't its strongest episode, but there were funny parts (such as the change of the Dean and the musical intro). Also enjoyed them combining Cougar Town and Downton Abbey and spoofing Dr. Who (really good show). Abed is a strong character, the additions of John Goodman and Michael K. Williams will hopefully be nice.

Not everyone likes all shows though. I basically slept through the first 3 (at least first 2 and 1/2) seasons of Mad Men, the 4th was a little better. I just don't like John Hamm and don't relate to Draper. I like the writing and the era and the other characters, but just can't get on board with the main character which makes it hard to enjoy. Weird since I love every other AMC show other than The Killing and the short lived Rubicon.

Whitney was different. The only part I enjoyed though was the scene with the nurse suit where she had him fill out the paperwork, etc. The male character was pretty funny through that. Just didn't care for the rest.

My friends say the same thing. I watched Horrible Bosses with Charlie Day and found him a bit annoying. I'd find anyone wanting to kill Jennifer Aniston because she liked them annoying though.

Charlie Day's character on Sunny is the best comedic character currently on TV and he plays it perfectly.
First, I would like to say that CURRENTLY my favorite show on Television is Psych. It is funny, not too crude, the main characters are well developed, and it has that bit of mystery to it. But anyone who hasn't seen it should REALLY check it out.

Second, as far as the OP is concerned,

Quote:It's no wonder the youth of today are doing what they're doing

I completely disagree. I think the reason the youth of today are doing what they are doing is because of poor parenting. I have siblings who watch Two and a Half Men, and who have listened to the likes of Richard Pryor, etc. But still don't walk around spewing curse words and sleeping with everything that moves, etc. Probably because we were raised better than that and taught that those were just TV shows. I feel like the parents of today get off easy by just blaming everything on video games and TV shows so that they don't have to do any real parenting. [/rant]
Psych is hilarious.

When is Mad Men starting? It feels like it's been at least two years since they were on....I know they had some kind of dispute with AMC or something.

I've really grown weary of The Office. My husband watched it on the DVR while I was out with friends Thursday, and I just deleted it - I didn't even care to see it.

How I Met Your Mother & Modern Family are shows I always look forward to. Up All Night with Christina Applegate has been pretty funny to me as well, but only because a lot of it hits close to home with a little kid, etc.
I tried to like Up All Night but it just hasn't grown on me yet. I'll watch one more episode but if I'm not turned around I'm dumping it from my lineup. I already have to many shows on my plate as it is.
Tonight comes the one I've been waiting for, "Terra Nova." Somewhere in my unfinished tales pile of novels and short stories lies the story of a man trying to solve a murder that took place the the middle Cretaceous.
