LIMA — A routine traffic stop netted nearly $15,000 in cash after a drug-sniffing dog alerted to a vehicle Sunday evening near Lima.
Sgt. Bob Burd, assistant commander of the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said it was a speeding violation that prompted troopers to stop the vehicle along the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 132 around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
“A Lima Police Department canine was called after criminal indicators were observed in the car,” Burd said. “The dog alerted to the car and a probable cause search was initiated.”
Burd said during the search nearly $15,000 in cash was seized. Burd said a complete inventory of items seized during the stop was unavailable. It was unclear what prompted the dog to alert to the vehicle, he said.
Three people from Detroit who were in the vehicle were questioned but ultimately released without any charges filed, Burd said.
Burd said the incident remains under investigation.
