Having watched my DVR'd version of the game (same result, darn it!), I have a few more impressions. Yeah, I know you can't play the game over, but...
OSU did not look overly scary minus so many of their soon-to-be starters, and Bauserman is no Kellen Moore or Chandler Harnish, that's for sure. Yes, we almost pulled this one out, but I think we may have to wait for the Syracuse game to really see how good UT is. That's my way of saying I will try really hard not to jump off a cliff if the Boise State game goes bad.
Interestingly, through 2 games we really haven't shown much of a sustained offense...most of our scores against New Hampshire were on a short field due to turnovers; today, we had one TD from a blocked punt (basically) and another on thanks to Page making something happen on a short pass--only the 3rd TD was really the culmination of a drive.
Speaking of that 3rd TD, OSU really had problems with Adonis. Would have liked to see him with the ball more often. On that final drive, I know we had Owens in the game due to his armm but still I thought we had plenty of time with 3 time-outs left to mix some runs in.
Speaking of Owens, I had no problem with putting him in for that last drive, but it really made the offense one-dimensional...if he had just brought the ball down and run to his right on that last play, he maybe gets a first down...watch the tape.
Page. Wow. Really. Take that, BCS schools who backed away from him.
Did the refs play a role in this game? Sadly, yes. Some of the calls were just flat-out strange, and the lack of calls against OSU odd. But, we had our chances.
Still think the decision to attempt a 51-yard FG in the 3rd quarter instead of punting and pinning what had been a less than awesome OSU offense deep, maybe inside their 10, certainly changed field position and may have put this game on a different path.
