Really, this is a legit question. UGA has had good recruiting, but that is it, lately. What has UGA done lately? 6-7 last yr, an unspectacular winning season in 2009.....what more? The SEC doesn't play the game, it's member institutions do. How UGA was ranked preseason Top 20 is beyond me. All hype. On a side note, it is very funny listening to sports talk radio today in GA. There are enought back-handed insults towards Boise St that it is becoming sickening. Boise St is and has been FOR REAL for some time now. The sun doesn't rise and shine with the SEC. Sure, the SEC is the top conference....but the inordinate amount of facetime given to the SEC by ESPN is becoming nauseating. Go Dawgs!! 03-wink

The question is, why is this such a HUGE win for Boise State? They came down here, beat a mediocre UGA team, have a cream puff schedule the rest of the season, and think you're all that. Try playing UGA, then SC, then Alabama, then Auburn, then LSU, then Florida and talk. ANY team can prepare for one game.
The question is, why is this such a HUGE win for Boise State?

The answer is: It's NOT a HUGE win for Boise State. ESPN is positioning it as a huge win, which (in my opinion) is a damn shame! The SEC's "ace in the hole" (read ESPN) is already setting the stage for the "excuse train" at season's end. Why should Boise St be allowed (read sarcasm here) to play for a nat'l title. They haven't played anyone except a mediocre UGA team. ESPN is the SEC's puppet. How else do you think a 2-loss SEC team played for the nat'l title 4 yrs ago. Remember, EPSN was the SEC's vocal outlet to get it done. To add insult to injury, LSU lost their last regular season game. WTF is wrong with college sports nowadays? The best team should be allowed to play for nat'l titles, not the team(s) that would provide the best TV ratings. Don't you agree?

P.S. I like your sig pic. Go Cain!!

I don't remember ESPN ever being in the pocket of the SEC. If they are now, it's a new development. They've always had a hard on for the PAC-10 and the Big-10. The SEC has always been overlooked. As for why LSU played in the national title game with two losses, that's because there WERE no undefeated teams in '07:

As for "the best team" playing for the national title game, no problem with that. ...but you're dead wrong if you think best team = undefeated team. All it would do is set up a situation where a team would schedule the weakest teams they could find. Hell, Notre Dame could create a cupcake schedule and run the gamut of a schedule loaded with ULL, SIU, ULM, LA TECH, EMU, WMU, UNLV, UTEP, Eastern KY, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho State. Hell, they'd be undefeated. Some powerhouse. Of COURSE they deserve to play for the national title! /sarcasm

I do find this funny though:

Others receiving votes: Virginia 66, Penn State 61, Kentucky 57, Wake Forest 53, Boise State 25, Arkansas 13, Utah 9, Mississippi State 7, Appalachian State 5, South Florida 5, Tulsa 4, Connecticut 3, Air Force 2, Rutgers 2

You are correct in saying that ESPN's television deal with the SEC was not active yet......but you HAVE TO KNOW it was being negotiated behind closed doors. To answer another statement you made: If you don't think ESPN has been touting SEC teams for the last decade.....you are delusional. I remember VERY CLEARLY how ESPN hyped up LSU that year. You are correct, there were no undefeated teams that yr....but LSU lost their last regular season game. It usually takes an entire season for a team to move from the #5 BCS slot to #2/#1. Can you say that USC getting "jobbed" was a flaw in knowledgable football fan's intelligence. USC got jobbed....bad. I can admit that, and I don't even like USC.

Moreover, Hawaii didn't deserve to be in a BCS bowl the year they went. They barely, I mean barely, won some of there games....against a creampuff schedule. Boise St's schedule has been pretty decent the last couple of yrs.

They lost to Arkansas, but beat Tennessee in the SEC championship game.

They deserved to be in the NC. Matter of fact, there was no team more deserving that year.
