in mens soccer, 1-0 to win the Michigan Invitational!
yeah. Men's Soccer seems to fly a little bit under the radar with the success of football (and understandably so) but I'm thinkin they should be earning some attendance too.
My daughter just started at St. Louis University and they have no football, so soccer is big this time of year (Plus they are 10 x national champs). They played NIU for their first home game and it was the first weekend kids were up there and they had a big crowd. NIU beat them 2-1 and it didn't get a mention. Actually I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't up there the day before. But our soccer team is undefeated and have played some tough teams.
17.....My daughter's a senior there and the large crowd was due, in part, because they have a freshman event to go to the game. That being said during the game my daughter texted me and said it was weird cheering against the Huskies..

Was at the Michigan game yesterday and they probably outplayed us in the first half but we had a long run and a perfect cross and drove it to the back of the net. They had two shots hit bars. UM was in the final four last year.
great to see, I remember when we made the tourney back in 06? 07? and had a home game against Loyola, it was a GREAT atmosphere. We won that and then played @ Indiana and lost a tough match.
NIU Men's Soccer was receiving eight votes in the 8/30/2011 Poll. The new poll comes out tomorrow.

The NSCAA Regional Rankings for Great Lakes region came out and they have us #4, behind Akron, Louisville, and Indiana.

Still early in the seasons, but that means our Football, Men's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball teams are receiving votes in the top 25.
Have to believe that having the defending National Champion in your conference helps recruiting.

Understandably I would agree with. That is a good choice of words. "Deservingly so" I could argue. Soccer has had some good success and one could maybe argue as much or more than the football program has had. In any case, it is great for volleyball and soccer to be doing so well. I wish I could go see them. I think I'll make one of my trips to Dekalb to catch one/both of them if I can, but then I probably will make one less football game this year. I can live with that.
