Just wanted to speak to the attendance Saturday night as that has been a bit of a topic here lately.

After seeing the radar early afternoon, I'm not sure how DeKalb didn't get hit worse that it did like many other areas west (Iowa) and east (Michigan & Notre Dame) did. Obviously, it had an negative effect on attendance.

I was especially impressed with the Student turnout on the East Side.
I have daughters at other Illinois schools & have friends with kids at various other midwest schools. I would say about 60-70% come home for Labor Day weekend no matter the school.

I did not expect to see that many students. Great to see. Looked like they were having a great time and hope they will continue in even stronger numbers in the weeks ahead.
I was there and in my usual spot. I knew it wasn't gonna be too bad (just had a feeling).
Very surprised the west side was as filled as it was. And the east side was more than expected, considering the earlier rains and nearly weekong prediction of bad weather. Kudos to the students who showed up. The suitcasers? You missed a great game, but show up next time. You'll like what you see, and keep coming back.

If only this game had been played Thursday. Attendance might have been magnificent.
Kudos to the students that were there also, very high energy even though the numbers were not great. Even well before the game started it was impressive to hear the NIU chants going.

I was looking through some boxscores and saw 3500 in attendance for EMU's opener. Im not a big one for pulling the plug on programs, but to no disrespect to any EMU fans on this board who may see this, that time is probably here for EMU.

Be careful what you wish for, what goes around comes around; people said that about NIU in the late Sadler/early Novak years.

Coach Novak turned our program around and laid a solid foundation. God bless Carrie Growth for having the wisdom and the foresight to hang with him long after most ADs would have thrown him overboard.

When you put it that way, excellent point. Its just been like that for so long, it would be great to see them turn it around.

And they did postpone the EMU game from Saturday to Sunday. I'm sure lots of people already had plans on Sunday knowing (thinking) the game would be on Saturday.

Also, NIU's been an anchor in basketball for quite some time now. And not in a good way.
If the weather would have been nice on Saturday, we would have at AT LEAST 7,000 more fans there.

A person supposedly in the know said that the game was a sellout..The weather did keep a lot of people away...the 17000+ number is butts in the seats...

I'll bet it was at least close to one. Sitting on the East you could see that on the West side people were sitting in the Upper Corners both North & South. That should be a good indicator of how deep the selling of tickets went.
I had to buy a single before the game and section G was all that was available
